A gem,

This review is from: The Baseball Chronicles (Hardcover)
This book is superb. It has about 15 chapters, and each chapter is a fascinating article on one of the true legends of baseball: Ruth, Mantle, Cobb, Jackie Robinson, Satchel Paige, etc. You'll learn that the reason for Gehrig's streak was that he, one of the best players of all-time, feared that if he sat out one game, he would be replaced. Or the conditions behind Jackie Robinson's being allowed into MLB. Di Maggio's streak; the shot heard round the world; how Dizzy Dean's career was cut short. A wonderful treasure of facts, stories, stats and more.
