By Charles Ashbacher (Marion, Iowa United States) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER)
This review is from: Baseball Memories, 1900-1909 (Hardcover)
The first decade of the twentieth century was when major league baseball settled into being the major leagues. Early in the decade, the American League was formed and quickly rose to the level of the established National League. The play was still sometimes rowdy, yet by the end of the decade, several of the all-time greats were established as national stars such as Walter Johnson and Ty Cobb and baseball was established as the national pastime.
This book contains detailed records of that decade, including an enormous number of photos of the players, umpires, stadiums, the locations of the stadiums in the cities, owners and executives. For each city that had a major league team, there are a few colored images of highlights of the city, headlines of the major newspapers and a listing of the baseball reporters for those papers. If you are interested in the history of baseball during this decade or are engaged in research, if this book does not contain the data you seek, then it will certainly point you in the right direction. It is truly a definitive work about baseball in the decade of 1900-1909. |
