great book, at least as a starting point for famous lines, speeches, and thoughts on the game of baseball.

lot's of laughs, lot's of history.

i think this book should be used as a springboard for more detailed sayings, writings, and quotes, by particular individuals that you enjoyed from this book. as an example, i would suggest any yogi berra quote book, but heck, any baseball knew that already. books authored by boswell are also a good read.
i am currently reading about bill veeck, as this book reminded me about him. if a particular players, coach, writer, announcer, etc had quotes you enjoy, then obviously look up more books by or about that person.

It is just what it holds itself out to be...a collection of some of the greatest quotations by and about baseball players and their sport by those who played it, and those who announced or merely observed it. Some are familiar, most are not, but all are interesting and many are laugh-out-loud funny. I can also see using these in speeches, classes, or just around the water cooler. For now, I am keeping mine on my bedside stand.

Quotes are arranged by topics, authors, etc.

I have the earlier version of this book, copyright 1991, but am donating it to a library and buying the 2008 updated version. This is a wonderful book, especially for baseball fans, but also for people who know something about baseball but aren't students of the game. You can just flip open to any page at random and learn things about people and the game, by the quotes. You can laugh, cry, think, or dream. A wonderful book, and I'm glad it has been revised and updated.
