1.0 out of 5 stars Great Music... Poor Quality Recording... Very Disappointed!
After reading the reviews on this album and listening to some of the sample MP3's on their website... I decided I had to add this CD to my collection.

Let me clarify my 1 star rating isn't because of the groups performance, their song writing ability or the musical arrangements on this CD... but rather the abysmal recording quality of this CD. They should...

Based on Actual Events is the follow up to Unfinished Thought's first album, Becoming Aware, which introduced the world to the musical revolution that is the brainchild of Joe Kiser and Stacey Nelson.
Due to Joe and Stacey's heart-wrenching and ever so thought provoking lyrics, mixed with the smooth and fitting music combining rock and electronica, together with Stacey's amazingly light and ethereal voice, it is no wonder the band have had to cooperate with the intense pressure to perform live for fans. The music from Unfinished Thought covers real-life issues in amazingly clear and realistic detail. From the beautiful and gracefully moving masterpiece that is Umbrella (The band has even made a just as impressive video for this song) about mental illness, to the smooth and faster-paced Through Crowded Rooms which Joe describes as having come from his social phobia, Based on Actual Events is sure to impress and open one's eyes, or should I say ears, to the breathtaking beauty that two unheard of musicians have created.
Unfinished Thought have been compared to the likes of Evanescence and Lacuna Coil, yet their style is all of its own, and perhaps better than other commercial styles out there. If you don't have a copy of Based on Actual Events, you are truly missing out on REAL music - you don't hear that everyday. If you're still not convinced, check out their website (http://www.unfinishedthought.com) for several downloads from both this album and Becoming Aware. I can guarantee that you will not pass them by.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album from a Great Band, June 30, 2004

This review is from: Based On Actual Events (Audio CD)
There are 12 songs on this album and each one follows a similar theme. It starts off with the song "Through Crowded Rooms." This song in my opinion sounds very much like a single and is very catchy. The song is about the fear of being in large crowds and I know many can relate to that fear. Some more songs that stick out to me are "By the Time You Read This", "Umbrella," "Evening", and "Don't Stop Raindrop." "By the Time You Read This" includes the vocals of a male choir and is very spooky and is definitely one of the highlight tracks on the album. UT made a beautiful music video for the song "Umbrella" so naturally it must be one of the better tracks on the album, and you bet it is. This is probably my favorite song ever written. The piano is beautiful and Stacey's voice is very emotional and everything is so well placed in the song. "Evening" could easily be a single and I see it being part of the score to a spy movie. I love "Don't Stop Raindrop" because I love the dramatic change between the verses and the chorus. The album closes with the beautiful ballad, "Coming Back." I am a sucker for any songs with the piano as the main instrument and if you listen to this song you will understand why.

All in all this album is absolutely beautiful and very well thought out. It is flawless in every aspect and you can tell that perfectionists were making this album. I cannot wait to see how they turn this album into a live performance. This band has created quite a buzz and they will only get bigger.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ask them not to find me, I wanted to be erased, January 19, 2007

This review is from: Based On Actual Events (Audio CD)
Few bands have made an immediate impact on me in recent memory but that's exactly what Unfinished Thought did. Their music is pretty straight-forward, the vocals are great, and the lyrics are intriguing to boot. Like a reviewer before me said, it's only gonna be time before Unfinished Thought gets a lot more noteriety.

Unfinished Thought is comprised of Stacey Kiser on vocals and piano and Joe Kiser on everything else. Their music ranges from heavy industrial to acoustic, but never fails to be full of emotion. Stacey's vocals set off most of the songs beautifully though I will admit that maybe with a bit better production her voice would sound more pristine than it does at times throughout Based On Actual Events. Past that, to say Joe did a great job creating musically stunning (at points) beats wouldn't be far off.

Based On Actual Events consists mainly the more industrial driven songs but there are a few stripped down tracks that are amazing. Umbrella, The Order Of Detail, The Timid, and Coming Back are all slower songs (acoustically minded at that) where Stacey sports some nifty vocals and vocalwork. If you're looking for heavier songs BOAE has those as well. Through Crowded Rooms, Probabilities, Evening, Don't Stop Raindrop, and Perfectly Still are all songs that are sure to quicken the pace and probably sound excellent live. The few oddball tracks that are included such as Sidewalks, By The Time You Read This, and Silhouette are a bit harder to separate into groups but are equally as good as the rest of the CD.

My favorite songs are Through Crowded Rooms, By The Time You Read This, Probabilities, Evening, and The Order Of Detail. If you liked early Evanescence (I'm talking pre-Fallen here) then Unfinished Thought is guaranteed to surprise. This band is original and all their own. As for the sound quality issues, I don't know what that's about. My copy sounds excellent so yeah, don't let the review below mine scare you off. Basically if you've ventured far enough into Amazon to find this CD then you might as well get it, if only to support them. Here's hoping to hear much more from UT in the near future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow........, March 30, 2005
This review is from: Based On Actual Events (Audio CD)
As a lot of people do, I constantly search the internet for lesser known bands that are in the genre I like-Alternative rock kinda stuff. I've always thought to myself, what if I had jumped on the Evanescence or something bandwagon years earlier b4 they were really famous. That would have been cool. Well, I feel I've found a band that has more than enough potential to became VERY famous. Anyway, on with the review. First of all, they are not comparable with anyone. Buy this CD and you'll see what I mean. The vocals on this CD are outstanding. They are melodious and captivating. From song to song, you get a plethora of styles on one CD. "Through Crowded Rooms" is kind of rock-ish. Then, "The Timid" is a very pretty acoustic song. Then, you have "Coming Back" which has a very interesting end that is like nothing you've heard. And these songs have a lot of meaning along with them and I like to connect with the music I listen to and this CD definitely allowed me to do that. So, I hope this helped/influenced you to get the CD.
P.S.: I highly recomend buying "Becoming Aware" as well with this. That will really allow you to see the versatility of this band.

5.0 out of 5 stars simply amazing, February 1, 2005
This review is from: Based On Actual Events (Audio CD)
The other day I was looking through some downloads of some underground goth bands and I happened upon one named Unfinished Thought. The information listed on them sounded interesting, so i downloaded the song "Umbrella". As i was listening to this song i was left in awe. Stacey Nelson's voice is amazing. After listening to this song for the eight time or so, i went to the artists home site, www.unfinishedthought.com and downloaded some of the other songs from this album. After listening to these i was shown that not only does Stacey Nelson have a beautifull voice, but she also has quite an amazing range. The music on this cd range through all forms of emotion. I have since also downloaded the video for Umbrella, which i would recomend to anyone, it is increadably moving and fits perfectly with the song. Now, for anyone who compares Unfinished Thought to Evanescence or Lacuna Coil obviously is doing so because of lack of better comparison, because UT is quite different then these two bands. In fact comparing them to another group is rather difficult due to their origionality. So all in all, comparing this group to another is nothing more then a silly endevore. It would just be simpiler to download the samples amazon has to offer and judge for yourself, you will not be disapointed

It is not often that a sophmore effort by a strong artist is better than the first one; but that is without any doubt the case here. The first album is a blockbuster ( if you don't own a copy of "Becomming Aware" do your self a favor and pick up a copy !!)so for an album to go above and beyond such a level it has to be something amazing . Thats what this album is amazing .
The band is getting more notice as time passes , dont wait and be a jummper on a band wagon ..hear what real music sounds like by buying your copy today. It will be said by others so permit me say it as well .. Unfinished Thought is a lot like Evanescence ..only Better ! There are not enough words to say how good this really is . 5.0 out of 5 stars A Truly Amazing group, July 29, 2004
This review is from: Based On Actual Events (Audio CD)
Unfinished Thought Is a truly amazing band who's music is not quite like anyone i've heard before. The mixture of the different styles of music is something that i have not heard before. The music is absolutely breath taking. Stacey Nelson, the main vocalist, has such a beautifull voice, that the very first time i heard the album i was hooked.
Unfinished Thought has quickly become one of my favorite groups due to the fact that they have Made this album like nothing else i have ever heard. Every song has a different style, and they still made their entire album great. No need for program buttons with this CD as it was all amazing.
In Finishing i would like to say that Unfinished Thought is a truly amazing band and if you would like to hear some more of their music a great place to find their music would be their website at www.unfinishedthrought.com . I am more then happy to give this band 5/5 stars

As a second album from this astounding band, Unfinished Thought shows that they have not only grown musically, but that they are ready to exceeded their predecessors. This band truly shows their strength in this amazing second album. The enchanting vocals will surely render one speechless, while the intense musical blend creates a perfect harmony. Each track has its own intense message, and they are all conveyed so beautifully and in their very own diverse ways. From a haunting gothic ballad to an industrial rush, Unfinished Thought has most certainly mastered several aspects of emotion with this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great!, April 21, 2004
This review is from: Based On Actual Events (Audio CD)
If you like Evanescence and Unfinished Thought's first CD "Becoming Aware" you'll love "Based on Actual Events." It's superb. Joe Kiser and Stacey Nelson are musical masters. Stacy's vocals are mesmerizing and the music is auditory gold. This CD puts UT to the number 1 spot on my Best Musicians list, right above Evanescence.
