Great booklet - very helpful explanation of the gospel. As opposed to most tracts and briefer presentations of the gospel, this booklet focuses on the "big story," encompassing creation, fall, redemption, and restoration. Perhaps its greatest strength is the way it ties mission into the telling of the gospel. There is no mistaking here that signing up for Christianity entails becoming a follower of Jesus and becoming part of God's work in the world.

As a rule I try to avoid critiquing books based on what isn't there, but in this case I'm afraid that's where my criticism lies. What Choung shares is an important (and often untold) part of the good news for sure, but personal sin, and consequently Christ's death as atonement for that sin, is minimized. The cross and resurrection are given primarily as our example to follow and the basis of our empowerment for God's mission in the world. Both true! Yet other biblical models of atonement that focus more on guilt and payment for our sin are not really in view here.

That said, I greatly appreciate what Choung has written. I no doubt will use this booklet in explaining the gospel, but probably in conjunction with other explanations as well to give a fuller picture of Christ's work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Much easier approach to sharing "the message", April 19, 2011

This review is from: Based on a True Story 5-Pack (Paperback)
This booklet is small enough to carry in your back pocket. The original book is 232 pages while this booklet is only 32. The original book is basically a dialog of two conversations that take place among 3 individuals regarding Us and the world - Us and each other - Us and God. The booklet on the other hand is the author speaking directly to you using the same conversational tone and teachings you would have become familiar with if you had read the story in the original book. He spells out the diagrams and highlights the key points: That we and this world we live in were Designed for good but then Damaged by evil. There is hope because we can be Restored for better through Christ. Who was Sent so that through Him, together we can heal.
There are two pages of notes at the back of the booklet to provide you with scriptural references. The benefit of sharing the message this way is that it gets otherwise disinterested people interested. It speaks to the logical brain and starts that dialog that allows not only the speaker but the hearer to willfully and wantingly discuss and investigate more. The more we get to know Christ the greater impact He has on our lives. That's how you reach the lost. Show them a map that they can relate to, that makes sense and gives them hope so they are open to discovering more. It's in the more that their faith will be strengthened and their understanding realized. The message of sin, Christ, the cross & salvation can only be taught to those willing to listen. This is a great way to start class.
