I can't believe I never heard of this band until I stumbled across this CD on Amazon. No matter where they happen to be from (New Zealand), they deserve to be a lot more well known here in the States.

The first couple of songs have a heavy reggae beat and at first I thought, okay, this is a reggae band. WRONG. They're actually a reggae/dub/R&B/blues/soul/jazz band. And probably a few other genres I won't figure out until after repeated listenings. The really remarkable thing is how they are able to fuse all these genres together to create an incredibly tight sound that just gets under your skin, I don't know any other way to put it.

As corny as it sounds, this CD is just plain grooooovy, man. If the sound samples here on Amazon sound intriguing AT ALL to you, just get out your wallet and buy it immediately. The whole is much, much more than the sum of its parts.

If you have ever been to New Zealand you know how much they love live music. Just about any little hole in the wall is going to have a band. In a country with so many talented musicians it is no wonder that Fat Freddy's Drop produces such wonderful music. When I bought my first Fat Freddy's Drop album the Kiwi salesman said it didn't matter which one I bought, they were all excellent, he also said how that people buy up the new one as soon as it is released and can't wait for the next one. After that initial purchase I have bought up every Fat Freddy release I can find and can't wait for more either. This album is just damn good music through and through.

A truly fantastic album from the NZ masters of Reggae. This band just produces perfect music that can't help but get under your skin. This is catchier than a box full of fishing tackle by the Waiau River and worth a place in anyone's collection. It stands playing over, and over, and over again - I just don't get bored with it (and I usually would).
