if you're a fan of the bands, this is splendid,
This review is from: From the Basement (DVD)
DVD is just stellar for music titles, thanks to the ability to jump to individual songs (not to mention the far superior sound quality). From The Basement ($14.98; Eagle Rock) is a great example, a music shown seen on the IFC channel which -- much like Live From Abbey Road -- lets you feel like you're getting to sit in on a private rehearsal with a band. The show has no host or audience and unlike Abbey Road there's not even a brief chat about their music. They just set up and perform. But it's wonderfully intimate with the bands ranging from radiohead to the White Stripes to Eels and Beck and other like-minded indies. Damien Rice is almost satirically mellow by kneeling on the floor to play his songs and why did I never notice before that Meg White sticks out her tongue when drumming? Great fun if you like these artists.

This dvd is THE BEST "musical dvd" i've ever bought.
I recommend it to anyone, anywhere. I lost my copy so I will definitely buy another one.

Wow, better than a concert,

This is the most amazing concert video I've seen. Filmed in high-def at Maida Vale studio, London (where many Peel sessions were recorded) for TV and podcast. Very high quality surround sound, intimate closeups, *no studio audience* -- just bands playing music. The camerawork is like being on the stage -- it's better than seeing the bands in concert: most of these bands only perform in huge stadiums where even the best seats are far away, and tickets would cost many times the price of this disc.
Some of the bands are more enigmatic than others. You can decide for yourself if they are your cup of tea. But even if you don't love Radiohead or the White Stripes, the performances are so intimate and involving that you will want to watch them repeatedly. If John Peel was still around this is what he'd be producing. Very highly recommended.

Just Radiohead and Thom Yorke please,

Will you please give us the full Radiohead and Thom Yorke set on DVD please? I love watching them on Youtube, but would rather see it on my 60" LCD.
The Radiohead set is amazing and gets 5 stars by itself.

This DVD is wonderful! I caught the very end of one of Thom Yorke (Radiohead) sessions on television and searched high and low (should have searched Amazon first like a normal person! lol). The quality is wonderful, the variety is great, and pay special attention to Jamie Lidell's set ("The City").
I WILL mention that not all of the artists are performing at the same time or in the same location...but the settings are all similar and reminds me of basement concerts when I was in high school! 5 Stars (I'd give it four because it left me wanting more...but I guess that alone is reason enough to give it 5 :))

No audience. No hype. No smoke and mirrors. Just an intimate look at these bands in a studio doing what they do. Superb camera work. Superb sound. Good mix of artists. On a good quality upscaling DVD player this disc looks and sounds almost as good as blu ray. I want more! Please offer more discs like this.

OK DVD but not amazing,

The DVD was OK, but I was disappointed after reading the other hyped up reviews. The musicians on the DVD are great, but the actual performances are somewhat disappointing and painful to sit through. Would've spent my money on something else if I could in hindsight.
