So annoying,

This review is from: The Basenji Revelation (Kindle Edition)
It is a habit of mine that when I read a book I like, I tend to purchase more books written by the author. Not this time. I have only reached half way through this book and I am so disappointed. The book revolved around a basenji however the author obviously does not know much about basenjis or researched the breed very thoroughly. Putting that aside, the most annoying thing about his book is that he does not appear to have had anyone proof read the book before publishing. The amount of times I have had to think to myself, "what does the author mean by this word" is ridiculous. I gave it a rating of 1 star only because I could not give it a rating of 0 stars.

Uneven But Enjoyable,

Honestly I got this more for the subject matter (involving basenjis) than anything else, but I found it an enjoyable read. The writing is uneven--it feels much like a first novel--and there are periods where the action drags a bit. When it does pick up, however, it's a good read and the author does a good job of capturing some of the oddities of the basenji breed.
Worth getting, especially for basenji owners/fans.

This novel is intriguing in the way the author combines historical details with stunning imagery. I read this book cover to cover in one evening, captivated by the main character, Sam, and the physical and emotional turmoil plaguing him. Clearly this author extensively researched all areas of his setting, from northern Virginia to Gabon to Egypt's Valley of the Kings. I enjoyed this book and all its complications and intricacies.

I was very disheartened to find that the basenji character was so maligned as written in this book, [...]. Certainly not a good promotion for the basenji breed or any breed, for that matter.

The book started out well and grabbed my attention. However, in the middle it exhibited many of the failings I've come to expect from self-published novels. The dialog was clunky, the characters did not act naturally, there was lots of exposition, and there were many typos. I was tempted to abandon it but I kept reading. The last 60 pages picked up and the book had a well written, exciting end.
