4.0 out of 5 stars A quick way to get on track
This book gives easy to understand information about how to keep accurate accounting records. The best part is that sample forms are shown in the book that you can recreate and use. No previous accounting knowledge is necessary, and not a lot of time is needed to understand the system outlined in the book. Scripture references are given at the beginning of each...

2.0 out of 5 stars church accounting
This truly is a basic book. It deals substantially with controls and not as much with accounting peculiar to churches, based on accepted accounting principles. Basic is the operative word. Not much help to someone having an understanding of for profit accounting and looking specifically for help with proper church accounting.

This book gives easy to understand information about how to keep accurate accounting records. The best part is that sample forms are shown in the book that you can recreate and use. No previous accounting knowledge is necessary, and not a lot of time is needed to understand the system outlined in the book. Scripture references are given at the beginning of each chapter so that you get the biblical principles behind the procedures that Mr, Henry recommends.

Basic to the point of 1 +1 = 2. Obsolete acounting, societal and theological principles. Written as if only males were to read it and only untrained, uneducated and uninspired male pastors would be reading the book. Needs thorough updating regarding software and computers, or better yet, to be removed from available references. A waste of money and overpriced for an older paperback.

This is a very basic manual. Especially good for those with little or no accounting or financial background.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not very helpful, July 6, 2005
This review is from: Basic Accounting for Churches (Paperback)
This was published in 1994 - it still talks about "dot matrix printers" and manual accounting...save your money and look at some other really terrific resources online (specifically by Zondervan - very good). Not helpful at all if you know even basic accounting.

Thank you for asking. You know I sent for this book during a very busy time for the Post Office; yet I got the book quickly and in fine shape. I really needed it when I got it. I had to give an overview of church bookkeeping and accounting to my church last week. I used the book to outline my presentation to the Finance Committee! I was a hit, thanks to the book. They appointed me bookkeeper for the church. I told them that I could not accept the position on a permanant basis. I did accept it as a tempt until they get a permanent (younger person--I'm 76).

Since you have been sooooooo nice, could you recommend a Basic Accounting book that I could use as the church's bookkeepper? I would like to give our small church (300-350 people) some good accounting methods/principles.
The Basis Accounting book should be for just basic accounting, not church accounting or bookkeepping. I just got that from you. You're great.
Thank you sooooo much,
George Mucherson
