Book Description

Manga Anatomy Like You've Never Seen It!

You know that manga faces are different from those of regular, American-style comic book characters. But did you know that manga bodies are also different? Well, they are, and Christopher Hart is here, once again, to tell you all about it in his signature accessible style.

This book is loaded with clear step-by-step instructions and illustrations, anatomical charts and information, and before-and-after comparisons you won’t find anywhere else—all tailored to creating authentic Japanese-style manga. And in addition to the breakdowns of the various sections of the body, you’ll also learn how all the different elements—including faces and costumes—come together to form complete characters. Basic Anatomy for the Manga Artist contains everything you need to know.

No aspiring mangaka (manga artist) should be without it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most Excellent!!! June 24, 2011
By Larry
There are a lot of Anatomy books out there; there are a lot of Manga books but NONE that bring the two together quite like this. This gave me endless enjoyment and entertainment - great value. I still don't know all the muscles of the skeleton but I'll get there. Movements, Symmetry, Perspective, Angles - all enlightening

5.0 out of 5 stars I bought this book! ... not from here, but ... October 30, 2012
the book goes into great detail on how to create anime/manga characters, how they should look on a page and how interaction with their environment effects their lighting and body language. i bought my copy at Barnes & Nobels at the full price [$21.99] but this is a great deal here, for a book so detailed and well explained.

(it not only tells you how something looks on the body, but WHY it's drawn that way)

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb July 11, 2011
By Art-G
This is an excellent book which truly follows its title: basic anatomy for manga artists. The book teaches manga proportions, posture, poses and a whole lot more. Its not just a technical book but a practical one as well. It shows how to specifically draw heads and bodies in a manner that emphasizes the exact muscles to create the authentic Japanese style of manga. Beginning from the skeleton, building up to both female and male bodies with detailed explanation and illustrations of the manga anatomy. There is a ton of very useful information with many tips on how to simplify drawing amazing manga characters. Have fun

I love how Christopher Hart explains the reasoning of knowing the muscles and seeing how they move. I enjoy this book and will be using it for a lot of reference.

Like "How to Draw Manga, Getting Started", "Basic Anatomy for the Manga Artist: Everything You Need to Start Drawing Authentic Manga Characters" gives me the details and step by step instructions on height, drawing hands and perfect feet. Looking foward to another manga artbook by Mr. Hart on draing hands and everyday poses (manga format). Keep it up the good work Mr. Hart!
