Excellent as a textbook,

This review is from: Basic Bankruptcy Law for Paralegals with CDROM (Paperback)
I use this book in teaching a Bankruptcy class to California paralegal students. It is an excellent introduction to the bankruptcy system, and includes discussions of both consumer and business bankruptcies (with a definite emphasis on the consumer side). I expecially appreciate the thorough treatment of the BAPA (laws that changed in October 2005).

This book provides a good basic grounding of bankruptcy law and gives detailed examples for the different aspects of each section of the bankruptcy code.

I agree that this book is disappointing and not very well organized. It doesn't do much to clearly explain the process of bankruptcy for the paralegal in practical, usable terms. If anyone knows of a good PRACTICAL book that guides a paralegal through the process of filing a bankruptcy I would love to know about it. I bought this book because it was required for my class and I kept it for future reference in my job, but it pretty much serves as a paperweight on my desk now.

I found this book to be extremely helpful for my paralegalcourse. It is easy to read and the information is current which is what one looks for in a textbook.

Disappointing...,
This review is from: Basic Bankruptcy Law for Paralegals, 7th Edition (Paperback)
Did anyone even bother to edit this textbook before it went out? The text is riddled with typos, and the organization of the chapters, and the material within certain chapters, leaves much to be desired. More examples, either hypotheticals or from case law, would be extremely helpful. The chapter on means testing was particularly confusing and difficult to understand, it desperately needs to be reworked, perhaps in a more graphic, step-by-step format, instead of paragraph after paragraph of text that is about as clear as mud. Thank goodness I had an excellent Bankruptcy Law instructor, if I had to rely solely on this text, I'd be hopelessly lost. The forms CD is not a bad extra, but all of these forms are also available for download from the US Bankruptcy Court's website, and some have been updated since this book came out.

This is a good book for paralegals. If you will be dealing with business bankrupties also read: Chapter 11 Business Reorganizations: For Business Leaders, Accountants And Lawyers

This is like an entire book worth of "fine print". Maybe a lawyer or someone who's already a paralegal can decipher it, but the point is to make the subject understandable for someone who is learning it. The book drones on and on and makes no distinction between the most important points and minor details. Buchbinder manages to make even the simplest aspects of bankruptcy perplexing and confusing.

The product was in the same condition that was promised to me. Although it was used, it did not contain many highlighted sentences and words and only marginal remarks and notes. It was worth the price.
