Great for Kids, Fun for Adults,

This review is from: Basic Beat BB013 Pair of Natural Wood Maracas (with 2" Head)
These are perfect for my 10 month old, he loves to shake them and since they are pretty thick and durable wood I am sure they will survive his infant years and many years beyond. He is 18 pounds, 30" and can grab these well - not too big and not too heavy.
They are not 100% perfect, one of them is very quiet compared to the other (I suppose from different thickness in the wood). This might be useful to get different "tones" out of them. And I would not recommend them for someone playing music in a band because they are relatively quiet. However, the quiet aspect is wonderful for a child or someone wanting to practice without anoying everyone in the house. They don't seem likely to break, which is a big plus for someone with kids. Also, they are very nice looking in person, natural wood, unpainted.

I love these, they make a nice gentle shaking sound that only wood can provide...the plastic ones I have make this awful grating gravel in a plastic egg kind of sound that's way too sharp. These are great and I highly recommend them.

Big beats for tiny hands!,

These are such great toys for my one year old! he loves to run around and shake them to make noise wherever he goes. They are great for counting to one=one shake and so on.

These wooden maracas are my preferred alternative to the less authentic plastic maracas that are often directed towards children. They are small and the perfect size for small hands. I would always choose these over plastic. They have a nice sound and look.

These lightweight maracas are beautiful and sophisticated enough for adults, yet manageable enough for small hands. One is higher-pitched than the other but they're about the same medium-low volume. The timbre produced by the natural wood is smooth and calming. My only complaint is that I wish they didn't each have a Basic Beat logo across the center (a detail I missed before ordering). A lovely gift for children from birth-100!

These were a hit with the kids, even the one who chewed on the handles (6mo) - nice maracas!

We bought these for our toddler son, and they are sized for a child. The handles make them easier hold than a shake egg.
Great for the price. I even borrow them to use at church when we are playing music that needs subtle percussion.

These are a great size and good quality. Our boy loves playing with them while eating lunch. A nice distraction from having him grab for his bowls constantly. Not much more to say, they are small, child-sized, wooden maracas.

These are pretty small, but have a nice, distinct (though not very loud) sound. So far they have been appreciated by the adults who have tried them in our house as much as by our kids, which is who I bought these for. (I bought these along with other Plan Toys instruments [tambourine and Preschool Big Drum] for a "band set" for Christmas.) These seem pretty sturdy, are smooth to the touch, and have a warm, pleasing appearance.

I bought these for my daughter when she was 18 months old, hoping this was one occasion where going with a high quality product wouldn't backfire if they were destroyed or wouldn't be overkill for her development level, and I was totally right! They've been a staple. They arrived as described They're very solid, but light, and the finish is smooth and beautiful. Nice craftsmanship and a natural wood finish. Definitely worth the bump in price over the plastic ones. I know you get a different, sharper sound with the plastic ones, but these are earthier and just more beautiful visually and aurally. She has a couple of egg shakers, too, but I love these the best. She was using plastic maracas in her music class and these are perfect because they're not too loud but they make a great sound. These tough little suckers have been on the job with my busy, and very musical toddler for over a year now, and she loves them every time she re-discovers them. They have taken a pounding and look the same as they did when she got them. They sound great and I have little doubt that she'll have them for many, many years to come! |
