3.0 out of 5 stars Basic Clinical Massage Therapy Book Review
Great pictures and some good information but rather a disappointment in that I was expecting something a bit more advanced in terms of information. This is basically a treatise on muscle location, with suggestions as to where to find trigger and tender points within the muscles. Oh well.

After graduating from school I thought,"How many more books do I really need?" But I have no regrets buying this one- my therapist friends have borrowed it and realized they want it, as well.

Artists have actually painted the muscles, including origin and insertion, over the photograph of each models body. Landmarks and hand positions are so easy to follow, and synergist muscles also noted for treatment purposes. I use this a lot as I work on clients form my home, it is very informative and well formatted. Various strokes as well as pressure and trigger points are also noted.
Not necesssarily for beginners, but perfect for expanding, or reviewing, what you already know. This book would also be very helpful in studying efforts for the NCBTMB national exams. I found it it perfect in review for my test.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Massage Therapy School Must!, October 16, 2003

This book has been incredibly helpful, from day one of massage therapy school. I have learned more about muscle anatomy from it than from our required anatomy book. The author uses real live humans with extremely realistic drawn muscles and bones superimposed on them, which gives you an excellent spatial perception of the anatomy and where it lies in the body. I HIGHLY recommend this book for massage therapy students, practitioners and pretty much anyone interested in muscular anatomy. STUPENDOUS BOOK!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Schools should use this instead of The Trail Guide/Biel, July 28, 2004
This review is from: Basic Clinical Massage Therapy: Integrating Anatomy and Treatment (LWW Massage Therapy & Bodywork Series) (Hardcover)
I love this book. One of the best things about it is that instead of pen and ink drawings (like the Biel book) it has color drawings on top of real photos of people. I find this much more understandable and can quickly implement massage techniques it recommends for the particular muscle it is illustrating. Glad I bought it!

As a recent massage therapy school graduate, I bought Basic Clinical Massage Therapy: Integrating Anatomy and Treatment to help study for the NCE. I wish I would have had this book in school. It's the best book I've seen integrating anatomy and massage. Filled with excellent color illustrations and a well-organized layout, it's a highly recommended addition to any massage therapist's library, both for the student and long-time professional.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Anatomy, December 26, 2004

This review is from: Basic Clinical Massage Therapy: Integrating Anatomy and Treatment (LWW Massage Therapy & Bodywork Series) (Hardcover)
Brilliant work on presenting anatomy in conjunction with massage. The drawing of the muscle on the model's body allows us to visualize where is the muscle located. The only complaint is that many of the techniques use thumb.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well-written book and a must buy, April 23, 2003

This review is from: Basic Clinical Massage Therapy: Integrating Anatomy and Treatment (LWW Massage Therapy & Bodywork Series) (Hardcover)
This book was quite organized and filled with lots of information important for the massage student needing to take the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. I used this book and the following which is also sold on amazon.com:
The Ultimate Study Guide for the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork: Key Review Questions and Answers
(Topics: Human Anatomy, Physiology and Kinesiology) Vol 1
(ISBN: 0971999643)

The Ultimate Study Guide for the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork: Key Review Questions and Answers
(Topics: Clinical Pathology and Recognition of Various Conditions) Vol 2
(ISBN: 0971999651)

The Ultimate Study Guide for the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork: Key Review Questions and Answers
(Topics: Massage Therapy and Bodywork: Theory, Assessment and Application. Professional Standards, Ethics and Business Practices) Vol 3

(ISBN: 097199966X)

The last 3 study guides are on the mark with the type of questions asked on the national test. My advice is to buy all four books. I passed the national certification examination for therapeutic massage and bodywork easily with the help of these four books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best in my library, November 30, 2005

This review is from: Basic Clinical Massage Therapy: Integrating Anatomy and Treatment (LWW Massage Therapy & Bodywork Series) (Hardcover)
I bought this book along with many others to help in studying for the national exams. I don't remember how helpful it was for the exams, but I refer to it often in my practice.

I have focused on therapeutic bodywork, and if that's where your interest lies, I think you'll find it a great reference. The book uses photos of models with the anatomy superimposed. This makes understanding application of the therapy very easy. In some photos, the practitioner is applying therapy and you can see how it affects the tissue involved. It's also a good reference for communication with a client.

The book covers many of the pathologies I've encountered so far, and most of the common ones. Unfortunately, it is rather short and I wish it covered even more in the same manner.

There is also a very good treatise on assesment.

I find myself refering to either this book or Frank Netter's Atlas of Human Anatomy before any others that I have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well-written, easy to learn from., April 9, 2005
This review is from: Basic Clinical Massage Therapy: Integrating Anatomy and Treatment (LWW Massage Therapy & Bodywork Series) (Hardcover)
This book has great anatomy info. It shows all of what you need to know as far as muscle actions, innervations, etc.
I also agree with previous reviewers that this is a good reference for the National Massage Board Exam (National Certification Exam). My other recommendations include;

Mosby's Pathology for Massage Therapists by Salvo
This book is just great for learning the needed pathology for the massage national board exam

The Ultimate Study Guide for the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork: Key Review Questions and Answers by Patrick Leonardi
This one comes in three volumes.
These three volumes had so many great review questions that
guided me in the right direction on what to know.

This is an awesome reference for the well trained, experienced massage therapist. There are techniques demonstrated in this book that are advanced. As for the graphic presentation, there is no other book that I am aware of that shows the human body from the outside in quite as precisely as this one does. I purchased this book, before it was actually published, as a student of massage therapy and will use it in my future practice. It has become a hit with the students and staff of my school.

This review is from: Basic Clinical Massage Therapy: Integrating Anatomy and Treatment (LWW Massage Therapy & Bodywork Series) (Hardcover)
This is the most incredible book. All the muscles are featured in the most outstanding photographs superimposed on top of models. Each picture is vibrant and bright in color with good descriptions on how to address them and which techniques to use. The pictures can show you at a glance the origins and insertions of the muscles, whether you are just beginning your studies and studying for anatomy exams or are a seasoned massage therapist who needs a quick reminder of exact attachments, this books serves all. I love this book!
