Best massage therapy book on the market,

This review is from: Basic Clinical Massage Therapy: Integrating Anatomy and Treatment (LWW Massage Therapy and Bodywork Educational Series) (Hardcover)
Why you should buy this book:
1. If you want to teach yourself massage. 2. If you massage school gave you a crappy Milady's massage book, or worse, their own hand written, poorly illustrated version. 3. If you really want to own a great massage therapy reference. Why I think its so great: The illustrations and visuals, give you everything you need to know to massage any area of the body. They have created a much more 3-d experience to learning massage from a book and translating that experience to a real body. ANYONE can learn from this book. Its an incredible resource. I don't know why every school doesn't use this book! If you are in school -- buy it! I borrowed this from my library before purchasing it. It is a must for an massage therapist, bodyworker, or closet healer! Also great for National exam review.

The best there is out there...,

This review is from: Basic Clinical Massage Therapy: Integrating Anatomy and Treatment (LWW Massage Therapy and Bodywork Educational Series) (Hardcover)
I have been using 'Doc' Clay's book as a reference for massage work, and it still stands as the best book for helping a therapist 'see' the muscles they are trying to work on.
What you get in this book, is a reference book that shows the client, the therapist's hands on the client, and the muscles superimposed on the picture of the client. This makes this book an excellent reference book for me, as well as a client-education tool. The book takes you through each part of the body, from the head all the way to the foot. In each section, you get a picture, of the area in question, with the ligaments and muscles superimposed on. You will also get a picture with the therapist's hand/s on and get a good view of what needs to be done. On top of that, the book does function as a functional anatomy guide, as it does set out in point form, the attachment and action of the muscles in question, the possible referral areas if any, and a guide to other muscles to examine. Overall, this is a must-have on every therapists desk.

Just Great,

This review is from: Basic Clinical Massage Therapy: Integrating Anatomy and Treatment (LWW Massage Therapy and Bodywork Educational Series) (Hardcover)
I have bought many books and DVD's on massage and anatomy and this is by far the best. It acomplishes what others often fail at and what all my teachers tried to instill in me, looking at a body in a 3 dimensional way. Did I mention the DVD? I was soo suprised that it actually showed everthing (well at least all the anatomy, palaptations, striping and crossfibering) thats in the book. I am very glad I bought this book and see using it again and again, unlike several DVD's and books I currently have.

Add Insight to Intuition,

This review is from: Basic Clinical Massage Therapy: Integrating Anatomy and Treatment (LWW Massage Therapy and Bodywork Educational Series) (Hardcover)
In this book, the combination of muscles superimposed over photography lends the viewer/massage therapist insight into the intuitive palpation of the muscles. Added to this, the author provides techniques for accessing these muscles. This was particularly useful to me for smaller muscles. The book is simply a lucid and delightfully simple for multisensoral understanding of the muscles of the body. Thumbs up and palms clapping!

Great for visual learners,
This review is from: Basic Clinical Massage Therapy: Integrating Anatomy and Treatment (LWW Massage Therapy and Bodywork Educational Series) (Hardcover)
We adopted this textbook to help our medical massage students sharpen their anatomy skills. This textbook's pictures allow students to reach through the skin in order to see the bony landmarks and muscles that they are working on. It's a little weak in the treatment realm. More specifically, it does not do a great visual job with trigger point location pictures. It provides a written explanation of the referred pain patterns of some trigger points. It doesn't really have a competitor in the industry, even though some reviewers want to compare it to Biel's Trail guide. Biel puts agonists together better than this text, but Biel's pictures can't compare to this text.

YOU HAVE TO BUY THIS BOOK! Period,
By
This review is from: Basic Clinical Massage Therapy: Integrating Anatomy and Treatment (LWW Massage Therapy and Bodywork Educational Series) (Hardcover)
This is undoubtedly a must have book that can easily be the sole resource on massage and anatomy that a massage therapist will EVER need. Every purchaser cannot be wrong! If you want a book that explains through graphic, precise pictorials and easy to follow techniques which muscles do what, you cannot go without this manual. An invaluable source when studying for the NCBTMB.
A suitable companion for this gem is the "The Magic Touch: How to make $100,000 per year as a massage Therapist" by Meagan R. Holub LMT. Chapter 6, what I like to call the marketing gold mine, offers a simply easy marketing tactic, "While everyone else was trying to out-do each other with information, they forgot a basic of good image making: how to pull the buyers' eyes to your ad before they think to look at any others. If you can catch their first glance, they are more likely to call you first, even if they study the ads of others. It is initial attraction that sells your ad over 80% of the time." "The Basic Clinical Massage..." sets you up with practical massage techniques and creatively complete anatomy training. "The Magic Touch:.." gives you everything you need to take that superior education and put it to palpable use!

A RNs thoughts on anatomy/massage technique pictures,
By Southern gal "Southern gal" (Southern USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Basic Clinical Massage Therapy: Integrating Anatomy and Treatment (LWW Massage Therapy and Bodywork Educational Series) (Hardcover)
This is a review of the earlier edition but the information here applies to this book as well.
The best of many, many books I have used for physical therapy approach to major medical problems. This is the most workable book with, by far, the best medical illustrations for the professional and the amateur alike. I have used Dr. Janet Travell's books, which are the benchmark for all musculo-skeletal manuals, but this is the book I use to put massage, trigger point, and any other therapies to use. It is the best anatomy book I have ever used, in school or on the job. It is a very safe book. The incredible artwork defining the location of muscles is the most helpful aspect of this book. Also, it is a super value for a manual of this quality. I don't agree with another review saying this book is not for the novice. I feel the ease of understanding from the terrific pictures makes it so much easier than most books. You can follow the 'feel' of a muscle much easier when you are guided with anatomical details.

Great book AMAZING CD-ROM,

This review is from: Basic Clinical Massage Therapy: Integrating Anatomy and Treatment (LWW Massage Therapy and Bodywork Educational Series) (Hardcover)
This book is fantastic for all the reasons the other reviewers gave, but oh that's not all...the CD-ROM is fantastic really amazing. It's a great way to see the muscles again in another view. The images are of computer generated models to show the attachments and then there is a video of a therapist massaging the muscle. It took me months to watch this CD-ROM because I had no idea it was going to be this great. Buy this book it's well worth the money. Plus, it's a business expense!

This book is so beneficial as reference material. The images are unreal and so specific. At least four therapists I know have bought the book since flicking through my copy.
