2.0 out of 5 stars screws a pain, hook and loop scratchy
I'm still expecting my first baby, but I did take the changing pad out last night to inspect it. Things I like:
1) the material is very soft
2) contour is nice and deep
3) hook and loop band is secure
Things I do not like:

4.0 out of 5 stars Changing pad, May 24, 2001

Rather than purchasing a changing table my husband and I got a new low dresser and use this changing pad on top of the dresser. We screwed the webbing straps into the back of the dresser (a must for safety!). It has served us well and is a nice thick cushion. However, because we screwed the webbing straps into the back of our dresser the removable, washable cover is no longer easy to remove for washing! We get around this minor difficulty by placing a waterproof liner on top, and a towel on top of that. Now we simply whisk the towel into the diaper pail and wash it along with the dirty diapers. It has served us very well.

2.0 out of 5 stars screws a pain, hook and loop scratchy, July 9, 2003

I'm still expecting my first baby, but I did take the changing pad out last night to inspect it. Things I like:
1) the material is very soft
2) contour is nice and deep
3) hook and loop band is secure
Things I do not like:
1) the cover has to be screwed into the dresser/changing table to secure it. That means you have to remove two wood screws every time you wash it. How many times can you do that before the holes are stripped? If you make new holes each time, your furniture will be full of holes. I like the idea another reviewer had to purchase the buckles, but it seems like this could have been better designed
2) the hook part of the hook and loop band feels very scratchy, especially for a bare little belly. Maybe I'll be able to pull it tight enough that that part won't touch my baby's belly, but it would have made more sense to have the soft loop part be on the band.
3) it says that the cover is waterproof and that the foam insert is washable, but when do things ever come out of the wash the same shape they went in? Sounds like trouble. I'll opt for a vinyl/wipeable pad.

So I will be returning this item for a different design.
Update: I have since returned this item and I am so glad that I went with the separate pad and cover. I'm constantly washing the two covers I bought when my daughter spits up or chooses to go to the bathroom as soon as I take her diaper off. This item would have been a pain to wash all the time.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a wipe clean surface: beware!, December 19, 2003
This review is from: Basic Comfort EZ Changing Pad (Baby Product)
I put this on my baby registry for my first born. After having her home from the hospital for a month, I became very unhappy with this changing pad. My baby had very loose stools (from a strictly breast milk diet) and she soiled this pad close to every changing. I kept having to wash the cover. My girl friend recommended to me another changing pad on the babiesrus website called the "Contoured Changing Pad" that has a permanent plastic cover on it (that allows for a wipe clean surface). I got one and found it to be worlds better than the E-Z pad. In fact I now have two of them, one for upstairs and one for down.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great pad, serves it's purpose, October 21, 2003
This review is from: Basic Comfort EZ Changing Pad (Baby Product)
I actually like this pad, I am on my 4th child and have tried several different changing pads over the years. With this baby I bought a dresser instead of a changing table and loved the fact that it had straps that you screw on to the back of the dresser for saftey, none of the other pads had these straps. It was a pain in the butt to take the cover off the pads when it got soiled, but then I got smart and started to fold a receiving blanket in half lengthwise with a small waterproof pad under it where the babies bottom lies and now when I make a mess while changing him or something soaks through I just take the receiving blanket off and replace it with another one. That is no different than a changing pad cover. I would recommend this pad if you are placing it on top of a dresser that has no guard rails mainly because of the straps and the deepness of the contour.

I thought this would be okay for the changing table instead of buying a vinyl one and a cover too. WRONG! I felt like the cover to this thing was always in the wash! It was more of problem than a solution. And after washing several times a week it started to shrink, then I couldn't get the pads back in the darn cover. And speaking of the pads, I could never get the ODORS out of it. I ended up buying the other changing pad, and a nice pink terry cover. I still wash this new one once a week, but I only have to spray and wipe the pad!! Easy & clean!

I have had this for 2 yrs now and am keeping it for my second (on the way). I too at first thought taking the cover off was a pain, but easily solved that. I bought the waterproof pads and bassinet/cradle sheets. The pads and sheets are much cheaper than the covers made for the pad. I change the sheets quite often and it's no hassle at all. I love that I didn't need to buy a separate changing table and this safely screws to the dresser, unnoticably.

4.0 out of 5 stars I loved this changing pad!, February 22, 2003

I had this 7 years ago when my son was a baby, and now that I'm having another baby, I'm going to buy another one. We used this on top of a dresser instead of buying a changing table and it worked great! It was soft and comfortable for the baby. The cover was easy to take off and wash. It lasted for many years.

Edited to add: I did buy this pad again and it's just as I remembered, except for one thing. The fabric on the back and sides is a thinner material than it was when I had it 7 years ago. Then, it was all terry cloth, and now it's a much thinner material. I would have preferred it if it was exactly the same as my first purchase, and it's still a really good pad, but because the material is thinner, I'm giving the pad 4 stars instead of 5.

This is a great changing pad! Much better than the one that Simmons sells, in my opinion. I think it's softer yet firm - just enough "cushiony." Also not as bulky as the Simmons changing pad. I got it at [a local store] for [$$$] for some reason... must have been a sale? It's also cheaper than Simmons too. Awesome!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfectly Useful Changing Pad, March 21, 2005

This review is from: Basic Comfort EZ Changing Pad (Baby Product)
I got this pad as a baby shower gift and I think it is just fine. I've never used the velcro straps to strap down my baby, I think you can do without those. I had a changing table given to me and this just fit right in it perfectly. I also got terry cloth changing pad covers with this gift and they fit nicely. Then I put one of those waterproof flannel pads down underneath the terry cloth cover and a smaller one on top of the cover where the baby's bottom goes. I wash the terry cloth cover once a week and don't need to do much more because if he pees or poops in the middle of a change I've got the waterproof pad on top as a back up and just change that out.
As a newborn though, when I would put him on the changing table, his legs and arms would flail out and he felt like he was falling and he'd scream. At my mom's house she has a different changing table that has more of a dip to it where he lays and he never did that there-guess he feels more secure that way and can feel the sides of the pad and table hugging him. That would be the only downfall is that it needs to have more of a dip to it. Other than that, it's a great pad-nice and comfy and I like the cover that comes with it, but I've always got other layers on top so I never really see it.
