From the Publisher

This third edition provides practical procedures and materials for the beginning conducting class. It covers a broad repertory of musical excerpts and scores. Students can work with an ensemble of class members since most excerpts are reduced to a four-part score format. The learner can practice conducting skills and rehearsal techniques at each class meeting.

From the Back Cover

A practical user text/workbook with a broad selection of conducting excerpts for choral and instrumental music majors. Set up in a format that is optimal for student learning with practice exercises/learning modules that have clearly stated goals emphasizing how to study, rehearse and conduct.

Format: Spiral-bound
Labutta's conducting textbook is the most up-to-date, now in its 4th edition (1999). I highly recomend this book because of the conciseness of the text (it's to the point), the relevancy of the information, and above all, because of the wealth of musical examples to be used in the development of conducting skills. The conciseness of the text encourages students to read it, and at the same time, provides students with all the information needed for the development of the specific skill being discussed. The abundance of musical examples makes this textbook a valuable single-volume reference material to be used by any beginning conducting class.
