This book comes with a CD and video. It offers excellent definitions and examples of group counseling skills. In addition it offers a number of written scenarious and exercises to practice understanding counseling responses. The video has a women's group counseling session and an adolsecent group session, The book has a script you can follow which helps to understand the responses of the counselors. The DVD offers shorter scenarios of group counseling that provide more examples of how to respond in different situations.

The book, video and DVD are easy to follow and understand. I highly recommend this book set to anyone who is a student of counseling or a beginning counselor.

The book was fine but the CD was broken, I did not have time to return it, so I had to obtain a copy from someone else. I am sure the cost include the CD, but all of the other purchases have been ok, so in the future I will order sooner to allow for problems.Thanks!

Excellent explanations and a great resource for beginning counselors. It is a definite keeper for your library. Unfortunately, it is ten years old and needs some serious electronic updating for its video and CD-ROM materials. Its seven counseling sessions could use some updating and better sessions in which to learn by example. For instance, the sessions' examples of empathy responses are sparse and difficult to identify. Lastly, its instances of questioning responses outnumber directing responses significantly, which goes against the authors' directives.
