The deserts of the world provide the explorer with endless vistas, challenges and joys. However, their seductive beauties can sometimes lead enthusiasts into compromising situations when they become stranded, lost or 'temporarily disoriented'. Then the deserts become vast, open distances with extremes of heat and cold. They become barren, dry, windy, lonely, expanses that tax the body and mind. The challenge then becomes 'survival' with the physical and psychological stresses of having to adapt to an unplanned-for situation. This book will teach the skills and attitudes necessary to 'adapt', rather than survive, in the lands of little water. Through a process of ATTITUDE, AWAARENESS AND ADAPTATION, the reader will learn how to become one with the coyote and feel confident in any 'desert survival' situation.

Dave Ganci is director of the Arizona Outdoor Institute which conducts outdoor adaptation programs for the U.S. Military, college and university students, and land-management personnel. He has trained students in all the North American deserts as well as deserts in South America and the Middle East.

It all comes down to what you want out of it.,

While this booklet may not be as comprehensive as Alloways' book, it is clear, accurate, and informative. While it will not prepare you for a life in the desert, the feeling I got was that Ganci knows his material well and passed on relevant skills. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the desert environment.
