Editorial Reviews

Product Description
For every fisherman who feels buying a lure and catching fish is not challenging enough, this book takes you back to yesteryear, when there were no department stores or sports shops and helps you create your own fishing lures. In 220 detailed color photos, Greg Hays helps you carve lures step-by-step, from the initial blank to a finished broke-back lure. Every tool needed is listed, every technique employed is carefully described, including painting instructions. Additionally, the author provides a pattern for the lure and illustrated instructions on assembling special boxes for each lure you create. Rounding out the presentation is a gallery featuring a variety of lures to fire your imagination. Once your lure is assembled, give it a try. The author is confident it will help you catch fish!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very useful, yet a little too basic, February 15, 2008
The book is actually very good because it explains step by step how to create a lure that seems to work pretty well.
It does provide a lot of ideas on how to do things to simplify the lure making process, but in some cases, the ideas are more complicated on the book than other solutions I have seen in other places/books.
I would definitively recommend it for people that are starting and that would like to understand the basics of luremaking. It also has Instructions for only one lure and plans for another (even when it has a couple other ideas in the photos in the back)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good lure making basics, April 2, 2009
By Harvey Long (Bossier City, LA United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Good lure making basics with very good photo presentation. The only thing I didn't like was what he considered the basic tools needed. I think some of these tools should be labeled as recommended items. A lot of people cannot afford nor do they have access to some of the tools, and might be discouraged. It would be good if he could give advice on where to obtain epoxy coatings, as these substances are not usually available at paint stores or hobby shops. Another item he might include would be his preference for types of carving knives.
