About the Author
Jerry Kaplan entered the field of math education after spending several years working in private industry as a research mathematician. He was attracted first to the combination of new math and educational technology, the latter in the form of programmed instruction. It was here that he was able to conduct research and to write widely on many areas of teaching and learning mathematics, applying research to the practical needs of the mathematics curriculum and classroom. These early years in and out of schools populated by many disadvantaged children and youth formed the basis for his thinking and strategies about math teaching and learning. Jerry originated the highly successful Math COACH 20 years ago as a way to teach math in a simple, clear way to a wide spectrum of students. The COACH now forms the centerpiece of Triumph Learning's publication plans. Dr. Kaplan is Professor Emeritus of Mathematics Education at Seton Hall University where he continues to teach graduate students after 28 years of full time teaching on that campus. Previously, he taught at Teachers College, Columbia University, and the University of Tel Aviv, Israel.
