Book Description

Introducing the Basic Guide Breed Series October 1997
The Doberman is one of the few breeds created by man for specific purpose. It is often refferred to as a "synthetic breed." Created in the 1800's and named for Herr Karl Fredrick Louis Dobermann who was largely responsible for the breed, it originated in Apolda, once the capital of the duchy of Saxe-Weiner, in what later became East Germany. The breed was developed as a guard dog. It is a tribute to the breeders, both in this country and around the world that the Doberman Pinscher is remarkably consistent from the earliest days of its development to the present time. Doberman have been bred around the world from the United States to Russia, from South Africa to Denmark. The Doberman Pinscher club of America was formed in 1921. To learn more about the Doberman Pinscher, if the breed is right for you and where to locate breeders look in "The Basic Guide to the Doberman Pinscher."
