From Booklist
Gr. 6-up. Softball became an official Olympic sport at the Atlanta games in 1996. This introduction to the game and its history is part of a series by the U.S. Olympic Committee designed to introduce Olympic sports to the public. Coverage is wide ranging and includes the game's history, brief profiles of the winning 2000 women's team, softball rules, advice on how to play, plus discussions about health and nutrition, safety and first aid, and information on organizing a team. The downside is a dry and sometimes clumsy writing style and the occasional editing error--one paragraph carries a heading that says "Fractures and Broken Bones" but only talks about treating cuts. Despite these problems, those looking for detailed information on Olympic softball, will find it in this volume in the Olympic Guides series. Denise Wilms
