Review

This video teaches basic defense moves against 55 typical attacks; all simple moves, all designed to work against a stronger attacker, and based on natural, instinctive reactions to assault. -- Self-Defense Magazine

Very good system. Explains well `why' and `how' of the shown moves. -- Andrzej Sadej, National Coach, Judo Canada, Gloucester, Ontario

Product Description

Easy, no-nonsense, complete system of self-defense taught by the best--Pawel Nastula won Judo World Championship in 1995, and European Judo Championship in 1994 and 1995 and Magdalena Szewczyk won Poland's Wrestling Championship (Women) and is a Silver Medal Winner in the Poland Judo Championship. This video teaches you how to avoid kicks and strikes, defeat any mugging hold, grab, or choke and disable the attacker with devastating locks and throws. The techniques are so simple that anyone does most of them effectively after only one try!

They are effective thanks to being based on basic, natural, instinctive human reactions that immediately neutralize any attack. Learning is quick because of the NEW teaching method or "teaching sequence" developed by Stadion's training expert Tom Kurz. He has arranged the techniques in a way that eliminates the need for long training by using as many common elements as possible. Each technique builds on movements learned earlier and habits developed while learning one defense make learning the next one easier.

Learn: * How to defend against 55 common attacks * How to defeat much stronger attackers without strength or agility * How to defeat all bear hugs and grabs--so often used in all-out fighting * How to defend against all grabs from behind * How to protect yourself from skillful punching and kicking attacks * How to fall so you will not get hurt if tripped or thrown down * How to eliminate the need for long training and quick reactions.

Most other programs show techniques that, although physically possible, are not likely to be done well by a person under stress and in fear. Not Stadion's Basic Instincts of Self-Defense. Rare in self-defense instruction, only those techniques that a much weaker and even very intimidated defender can use are shown. The strikes and kicks shown do not require power or accuracy. The defender uses them to distract or position the opponent, to make a joint lock or a throw easier. However, all attacks are done at the attacker's full power--full force, full speed, on target strikes and full-strength holds or grabs. No faking so you see only the moves that work when things are really going bad. The techniques (mainly from judo, but also from viet vo dao, sambo, and other arts) were selected by Major Grzegorz Piwowarczyk, a military hand-to-hand combat and self-defense instructor in Poland. The video was shot at the Center for Police Training in Legionowo, Poland.

4.0 out of 5 stars VG-Situational Self-defense but a bit Pricy, August 14, 2003

This review is from: Basic Instincts of Self-Defense [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Unarmed street type Self-defense, uses practical techniques. However, novice students need a liberal amount of training time with a good partner. Video production is well arranged, and subject matter flows logically and skills increase in difficulty. Video is narrated in English using Polish Physical Education & Olympic calibre Judo champions. Includes one female and three male black belts. New techniques are repeated for instructional reinforcement.

Tape does not cover prevention and awareness training. This tape focuses on situational attack vs response strategy using no nonsense standing & ground techniques. The Skill level required of this tape is best suited for Intermediate and above students. However, commited novices can learn with sufficient repetition. Definitley recommend learning proper falling techniques as shown at begining of the tape.

For all students beginer to advanced, this tape should be supplemented by a "Prevention & Awareness" tape such as "Safe in the Street" by Paladin Press. For intermediate and above students, supplement some of these techniques by a Brazillian Jui-Jitsu series such as Grace "Street-Self Defense" by Gracie Jui-Jitsu Videos, etc. However, the Best training is from spending time On-the-Mat!
