Book Description

1572180420 978-1572180420 June 9, 1997 Pap/Dis
Beam and lumber requirements for many jobs aren t always clear, especially with changing building codes and lumber products. Most of the time you rely on your own rules of thumb when figuring spans or lumber engineering.

This book can help you fill the gap between what you can find in the building code span tables and what you need to pay a certified engineer to do. With its large, clear illustrations and examples, this book shows you how to figure stresses for pre-engineered wood or wood structural members, how to calculate loads, and how to design your own girders, joists and beams.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book saved us money!, March 29, 1999

This review is from: Basic Lumber Engineering for Builders (Paperback)
Typically, a remodeling job requires some guesswork on the load capacity of the existing members of a house. The remodeler's inclination is to overbuild to stay on the safe side of the code and pass inspection. We were able to save time and money by using this book at the plan stage to figure spans and loads for an addition.
