If you want to learn what Macrobiotic cooking is all about...this is the book! Very easy to read. Takes you step-by-step on "HOW" to cook and "HOW" to prepare food with a pressure cooker and the importance of such a utensil. Wonderful recipes. Very basic, very good. Perfect introduction to the lifestyle!

Perfect ideas for maintianing macrobiotics if you have little energy (eg you are ill) or you are very busy & cannot do a gourmet meal every night as Aveline Kushi has on the menus in her glossaries!!! If you know any other good books like this ... Thanks

A cookbook that inspires your own creativity,

This book does NOT list recipes for specific dishes. Instead, it lists cooking procedures. So you need ideas for a pie filling? Turn to "Pie Fillings" and look at Ferre's basic procedure and examples. You think you want to pickle all those cukes your garden yielded? Turn to "Pickles" and see all the options--brine pickles, pressed pickles, salt pickles....This book tells you how to do what you want to do and gives you tasty examples. All you have to do is take it from there. It's a great reference for any whole foods cook, not only for people interested in macrobiotics.I am about to purchase my third copy of this book, I use it so often. My wish list for the next edition, if there is one: looseleaf binding; "Notes" pages in each section.

This book while containing some theory, does not contain exclusively theory (which many books I've read on macrobiotics does). Instead she concentrates on application. There's lots of recipes, with much variety. She organizes the sections well, even giving a menu section, and a section dedicated to reusing leftovers! This is the book to get when you actually want to start cooking macrobiotic, but don't really know where to begin (even after reading much about it).
