5.0 out of 5 stars This is just what I needed
This is the best instructional video I've seen.

I put this on my wish list and then one of my family members bought it for me. I wanted to learn about massage but just didn't have the time to take a class. I've always thought about pursing this as a career but just didnt know how to get started. This video was just what I needed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not great, but it works
The video gives a good overview of some techniques, but it is simply one continuous video. There is no title screen. There are no chapters. You simply have to fast-forward or rewind to get to where you want. The techniques are performed with little explanation, but if you watch it a few times, you can pick up most of them. Overall, not too bad, not too great.

This is the best instructional video I've seen.

I put this on my wish list and then one of my family members bought it for me. I wanted to learn about massage but just didn't have the time to take a class. I've always thought about pursing this as a career but just didnt know how to get started. This video was just what I needed.

The video starts off with the massage therapist preparing a client for a full body massage. She shows you how to do everything for a massage from the beginning to end. The massage therapist doesn't talk during the massage but it looks like she went back in and recorded instruction while the video shows her performing the massage.

The massage therapist works one side of the client's body and then the other while explaining in detail how to do it. She takes about an hour and a half to perform and explain the full massage. She talks you through each part of the massage of each part of the body going into how to massage that specific body part with what to do and what to avoid. I had no idea that there was so much more to it than just a back rub. While it's not difficult to follow along, it would be difficult with the video.

The overall production quality is very good. I was very impressed with the quality and production aspects of this video. While this is a DVD, it's not wide-screen. I almost think it's better since it fills the full screen and shows a closer view of the massage.

The soundtrack is great. There's good music at the front and end. Throughout most of the video there's a nice background sound of a quite waterfall. The massage therapist explained that white noise generators or waterfalls should be used to aid in the relaxation process. It sure works in this video.

The only thing I wish is that they had an intermediate or advanced massage video I could get next.

So, the bottom line is that I got the chance to learn about massage at my own pace i the comfort of my own home. Now that I learned about basic massage, I think that I will take some massage classes and see if I'd like to do this as a career.

Thanks!

5.0 out of 5 stars Basic Massage Video, March 1, 2002

I'm a massage therapist from California and haven't practiced in a number of years. This was a great refresher course for me and I want to highly recommend it for the lay person who just wants to give a nice massage. The techniques are easy to learn, use and remember - and most importantly - highly effective in the art of relaxation. I received the tape quickly after ordering it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Relaxation at it's best!..., December 6, 2002

This Basic massage Therapy video is one of the best massage videos I have ever seen. It is extremely detailed and informative. I actually used some of the techniques that I learned from watching this video to give massages to my family and friends. They said it felt as if they had been to see a professional massage therapist!... I would definitely recommend this video for anyone wanting to learn about massage.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very pleased with this video!!! Five Stars, November 28, 2004

I bought this in VHS format - but many buy in DVD so I wanted to review it here as well. I was extremely happy with this video. It showed the basics - and that's just what I wanted. Most of us know that we carry stress in our shoulders and one of the things this video explained was the accupressure points in our body to relieve those stress knots. It also showed how to give a soothing swedish massage. I've used the techniques I've learned in the tape and always have someone who's fallen asleep by the end of the massage! (now THAT'S a compliment)! Thanks for a great basic tape that everyone should have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Back to Basics, October 1, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Basic Massage Therapy (DVD)
I studied massage therapy a few years ago and, due to some back problems, had to give it up for a couple of years. When my back finally got better, I wanted to start up my massage therapy again. I had lost my rhythm and touch, and forgotten some techniques.

The Basic Massage Video (and DVD too), I found, is the best video for teaching and relearning the trade. After promptly receiving and reviewing the video, I was able to get my rhythm back and learned all over the massage therapy techniques. I would suggest this video to anyone, from novice to vastly experienced.

4.0 out of 5 stars It is a pretty good way to learn about massage, December 18, 2002

This video is a great video for beginners like me. I watched it twice and I could do most of the techniques. Mostly this video shows someone giving a massage to someone else without too much verbal instruction. The video is kind of cheaply made, but it is a good video.

5.0 out of 5 stars (...) I didn't go wrong!, November 2, 2004
I bought this video to give my boyfriend a massage and he's one happy camper. It's easy to understand and I can give him a massage the way a professional does. He's very happy and I like pleasing him.
