Basics for Counciling in a Biblical World,
By RedRover (Pittsburgh PA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Basic Principles of Biblical Counseling (Paperback)
This book is wonderful material for helping those who want to help God's people. Some people start off counceling by trying to get the Christian to pray more and read more. Dr. Crabb takes counceling beyond these basic steps and challenges the heart behind the sin (Matth 5&6). Dr. Crabb keeps counceling simple and helps to give practical steps in removing "sin's decietfulness" as well as effectively using the Bible to change someones life.

A theoretical foundation for biblically consistent approach to counselling',
This review is from: Basic Principles of Biblical Counseling (Hardcover)
Basic Principles of Biblical Counselling - Showing Care Through The Local Church by Lawrence Crabb, 1975, 1985 UK edition is a 119 small paper back with small font. The book is split into 10 chapters, but did not do much for me. It was an ok book.
I have little interest in what Freud, Skinner, Rogers or other said on the subject of counselling unless is has a direct bearing on biblical counselling, though the author was giving the other view points as well as Ego psychology and Existentialism. There are a few diagrams which i did not see as helpful or beneficial, though i am sure others who have studied in this area would appreciate them, though as it states at the end of the book -'the purpose of the book is to lay a theoretical foundation for biblically consistent approach to counselling' There are some good pints in the book, a few case examples and the reason why people behave the way they do - childhood, and parents; and will they submit to the Lordship of Christ and the way in which He has laid out? The book also covers self acceptance, need for significance, problems begin in our thoughts, sin, repentance, forsaking, renewing of our mind, childhood and reject sin.
