4.0 out of 5 stars A very Good Text, October 24, 2006
This review is from: Basic Principles of Music Theory (Hardcover)
I took music theory in college from Joseph Brye and we used this text in his class. That was many years ago and Joe has passed away but I still own my text and even look at it on occasion. I found that his teaching augmented the text very nicely because he filled in much more detail around the basic conecpts he presented in the book. Now, some 30 years later I still use the theory conecpts I learned from Joe Brye when I improvise on the piano or when I want to understand a passage from a piece of music literature.

I honestly haven't looked at very many other theory books so I can't compare very well (and so hesitate to give it a 5) but this book definitely is worth it and gives you solid basic information.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simply the best ever!, October 14, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Basic Principles of Music Theory (Hardcover)
This is the best music theory text ever. It should be reprinted. No one ever sells a copy after reading it. Basic theory is present in short comprehensible chunks of related information. Get a copy if you can or check university libraries.
