I read several quilting books before I found Basic Quilting: All the Skills and Tools You Need to Get Started and finally the pieces of the puzzle started to come together. Other beginner books just had super simple projects that you can make in a day but you weren't quilting (you were making crafts with basic sewing stitches which is fine if that is your intention).

I learned a lot from this book but it is definitely for beginners. You will not learn to make a quilt from this book. The most advanced project is a table runner but the projects are fun and with each project you learn a new quilting skill.

I gave this book 4 out of 5 Stars because it does not cover how to bind a quilt.

Compiled, edited and arranged by quilting expert Sherrye Landrum, "Basic Quilting: All The Skills And Tools You Need To Get Started" is a fundamental introduction and instruction manual on quilting specifically designed for the novice beginner. Aspiring quilters are provided with expert and seasoned advice on choosing fabrics, batting, backing, thread, and quilt designs. With expert contributions by Charlene Atkinson and photographs by Alan Wycheck, "Basic Quilting" is an ideal, spiral bound, instructional manual for anyone aspiring to acquire the basics of quilting that launch them into the creative and valued needlecraft hobby of quilting.

These books are going to a womens group in Kenya. They do not know what quilts are, at their higher elevation i'm hoping they can market them locally and maybe even get some sent here to raise funds for widows and orphans.

I have not had a chance to read this yet, and I got this out of curiosity, because I don't quilt, but I thought it might be interesting. It seems to be just what was advertised. One day, I hope to have a little time to put this into practice.

A good start for someone who wants to teach themselves to quilt. A long list of equipment you could possibly need. You still might want to find a class if possible as some aspects of the book need more than just an overview.
