Robert Quine guitarist extraordinaire and Drummer Fred Maher who've worked together before with Richard Hell in 1982 and Lou Reed in 1983 & 1984, work well together on the collection entitled "Basic". The title sums it up, it's all very basic and simple. Quine's two major influences are Lou Reed and James Burton and it shows on Basic while all along maintaining his own identity. This is perfect music for a soundtrack, music over dinner, or just pure listening pleasure. Basic is to guitar music what Eno's "Music For Films" is to Ambient music. No serious minded guitarist should be without this LP.

This record bewildered me for years. Weaned on Quine's more rock-oriented work with Lou Reed, Richard Hell and Matthew Sweet, this record seem to meander too much for my tastes. However, pulling it out years later (after being converted by seventies Miles Davis), I'm now convinced it is one of the finest albums of the decade and a superb record to get lost in.

This album must be reissued on CD IMMEDIATELY.

This is really a classic, must have album for anyone who enjoys tight, clean, rocking guitar. In addition to their notable work for Lou (some of his best post-Transformer solo), these guys are what made Matthew Sweet's debut album, and what's been lacking ever since. In the course of transferring lps to cd, found this album MIA from the collection, and am only disappointed they haven't come back with more. You won't be disappointed with this one.
