5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent presentation of mathematics for the engineering technician
Allyn Washington's Basic Technical Mathematics is well known in the engineering technology community. It has been used at many technical colleges for years and has become a "standard" by which other technical mathematics books are judged. 3.0 out of 5 stars Fancy name for "algebra"
Pretty vague terminology/problem explanation. Be sure your course offers the "MyMathLab" - at least this way you will have a chance to see how to solve the problems. Simply having the odd numbered answers in the back of the book is insufficient. Not all of these books automatically come with the access code for MyMathLab [mine didn't - it cost me an additional $80], so...

This review is from: Basic Technical Mathematics (7th Edition) (Hardcover)
Allyn Washington's Basic Technical Mathematics is well known in the engineering technology community. It has been used at many technical colleges for years and has become a "standard" by which other technical mathematics books are judged. Through seven editions (now eight) this book has probably introduced more engineering technicians to mathematics than any other. Explanations are clear, examples abundant, and review problems are plentiful. There is a student solutions manual that is reasonably priced (about $30.00) that can be purchased. The book progresses from basic mathematics all the way through trigonometric functions, complex numbers, matrices and analytic geometry. Math is not an easy subject to grasp, but if you are determined to learn this subject and are willing to spend the time, I can't think of a better textbook to learn from.

1.0 out of 5 stars Watch what you are buying!, August 20, 2009
I bought this book for my brother's math class. The book finally arrived (after 8 days) and is in great condition, but there is one big problem. The 'MyMathLab' Series wording is misleading, in that the book did not come with the program attached. Upon examining the description further, I realized that it actually states that the book "may have the Program attached". That word 'may' covers their butt for when someone like me orders a book trusting that I will get what I order, and don't get what I order. The book is absolutely useless for someone who needs the MyMathLab Cd. Fortunately, my brother ended up not needing it, or it would have been returned much faster than it was received. For the BIG LIE, it only deserves one star.

3.0 out of 5 stars Useful if you don't need calculus, April 30, 2011

This is the book without the calculus that most physics class require. Don't buy this unless you specifically do NOT need calculus, otherwise it is very much like the "with calculus" edition.

1.0 out of 5 stars wrong order from supplier, September 20, 2010

Even though I entered the right ISBN for this book i recieved the edition that was without the calculus section, at this time I have to turn to another supplier to get the correct book. The only positive note is that the book was delivered earlier than scheduled, but given that the book is wrong i will have to send it back for a refund.

This book came to me in perfect condition, it looked practically new! I got it in great time, a few days before expected. If I were to buy another book, it would probably be from the same site. Great, great service!

The seller was quick to respond to my emails and offered a refund due to length of time in receiving the book. I will do business again with seller. Book was in exact condition as stated.
