Superb!,
This review is from: Basic Technical Mathematics with Calculus (7th Edition) (Hardcover)
I used this book for two years during my Polytechnic days. The explanations are very clear. Examples also demonstrated the concepts in a manner which is very detailed (i.e. no skipping of steps).
Highly recommended!

Well Written, Well Organized Text,

Starts with the number line and goes all the way to calculus and differential equations. Easy to understand. Very well organized. The book is great for learning material for the first time. It's even better as a reference.

I hate to be the lone dissenting opinion here, but I found this book (9th edition, and I also owned the 8th edition too) to be very difficult to understand. If you are a beginner in algebra then I suggest you look for something else. However, I can't speak for the calculus part of the book, because I haven't got that far yet. For algebra beginners, may I suggest... Mathematics for the Trades 7th Edition (or later) [Paperback] by Carman, Robert. I managed a 4.0 GPA with this book.

The best text out there.,
This review is from: Basic Technical Mathematics with Calculus SI Version (8th Edition) (Hardcover)
I went through this book cover to cover during my engineering classes at Purdue. Every five to ten years or so, I pick up the newest edition just to have as a reference.
Very readable, which is rare for many books of this type.

I have used this book for the past two semesters and I would rate it as "ok". It can be confusing at times and it doesn't always elaborate on a point.

They sent me the wrong book and after I emailed them about it their only solution was to return the book for a 50% refund. Terrible service. Find somewhere else to buy books.

Not worth the time,
This review is from: Basic Technical Mathematics with Calculus (9th Edition) (Hardcover)
It was unfortunate that my university used this book for Pre-Cal all the way to differential equations. My main complaint is that the book speaks to seasoned professionals who are already engineers or had previous experience with higher mathematics. The book has these assumptions and it's frustrating to a student who is beginning a career in engineering, and takes the higher math for the first time. If you are a beginner, you will likely fail at the hands of this book without ample accommodation from tutors. The book tries to explain the concepts but not in a way that's easy to digest. The instructions and explanations are complicated. This book should NOT be used by beginners but it might make great reference for those who are in the engineering field.

Love this math book!!,
This review is from: Basic Technical Mathematics with Calculus (9th Edition) (Hardcover)
This text, along with the my math lab disc, allowed me to learn calculus on my own for college credit. The explanations and exercises were terrific! A quick disclaimer, though, is that I have ONLY used this book for calculus work, which starts on chapter 23 and continues to the end of the book on chapter 31. The most I have delved into the chapters prior to 23, was for a quick review, but I do like that the book encompasses algebra, geometry, trigonometry and calculus. A great book to keep for reveiw!
