I bought this book because I needed to brush up on video due to a job change. Having been educated in electronics 15 years ago and since been working in the industry, I was appalled at the lack of professionalism and degree of inaccuracy in this "manual". It's nice that the author "dumbed-down" the explanations of basic electronics theory, but deliberately misstating the facts is no way to educate.

As an example, the author states in reference to alternating current (AC): "The current flows from negative to positive, then from positive to negative". Never have I heard it described this way. Assuming "electron flow" as opposed to "hole flow", the current will always flow from negative to positive...when the source polarity switches (as does in AC), the current flow switches direction accordingly. There is huge distinction between the author's explanation and mine, and I suppose my critique boils down to the fact that the author could do a much better job in explaining fundamental electronic concepts.

I know there are more recent editions (I bought the 3rd edition). Make sure you get the latest one.

It gets two stars for telling me the few things I didn't already know about basic video.
