Editorial Reviews

A 6-DVD set, Basics of Biblical Greek Video Lectures features an integrated approach to learning New Testament Greek, turning it into a natural process and showing from the start how an understanding of the language helps in better comprehending the New Testament. This DVD set features 36 lessons, each twenty to thirty-five minute, for each chapter in Basics of Biblical Greek Grammar. Useful as a complement to the book or as a standalone resource, the lectures are perfect for formal Greek language students who miss a classroom lecture or want additional help in their learning; instructors wanting to devote classroom time to drills and exercises, providing a lecture tool students can watch on their own time; homeschool parents and students; and self-taught students of biblical Greek alike.

Mounce is easy to understand and follow.

William Mounce's teaching method is very thorough; he explains the structure of the English and Greek languages and it isn't dry; it's actually very interesting.

I recommend this DVD set to those using the material from Mounce for their study of Greek.

Mounce’s Basics of Biblical Greek has been well used and received now for many years. It is one of the most popular ways to learn New Testament (koine) Greek today. Mounce’s system and pedagogy is somewhat unconventional (verbs introduced much later, few paradigms to memorize) but it is particularly well suited for training the beginner to language study. The usefulness of Mounce’s book and workbook is only enhanced by these DVD lectures that help to explain the material found in the book.

These lectures are useful particularly for the self-learner who will benefit from careful explanation of the material in the book from a teacher. The lectures are generally around 30 minutes in length and contain short concise summaries of the material. These explanations are not usually comprehensive in nature so the book material must be studied carefully. The lectures serve as a good introduction to the material in the book.

Mounce will usually explain English grammatical terminology in addition to the Greek grammar due to the sad fact that many of us have forgotten our basic English grammar (if we ever learned it). The DVD lectures are well produced and contain on screen illustrations of the words and grammar as Mounce explains them. These lectures are not a substitute for careful study of the material found in the book, but they do provide another angle for learning the material.

I recommend this DVD set to those using the material from Mounce for their study of Greek. It provides another useful avenue for learning New Testament Greek.

I must say that I am extremely disappointed with this set. Not only are the lectures a basic rehash of what came for FREE on the Grammar book edition, but they aren't very engaging and contain material that can be found for free readily on many sites online! That is correct, much of this material can be found ONLINE to be downloaded in mp4 video format for absolutely free and in more engaging and better detail. I had originally intended to use this DVD set in a class that I am going to be giving, but I find the price to be very steep and a bit unorthodox in terms of how things are introduced to the beginner. Again, this set is supposed to be for the BEGINNER. I'd recommend anyone get a hold of a second edition of Mounce's Grammar book. Make sure your edition comes with the free CD inside. The free CD inside will provide you with the lessons you need, for a BIG fraction of the price! Disappointed with the short lessons that are not in depth and even more upset with the fact that this was packaged as a separate set of lectures and priced so high. Not recommended. Search Amazon for much cheaper introductory levels to help you learn Biblical Greek. Video lessons can also be found for free by simply searching with any reliable search engine. Happy searching!

I am already fluent in Biblical Greek, but I bought the video series for review. If I had materials such as Mounce has produced when I was in Seminary, mastery of the language would have been a lot easier. Mounce lets you know when a paradigm is essential to memorize and which other paradigms are just nice to know and to be familiar with. He also distilled the vocabulary to memorize down to the most essential words so that the time you spend memorizing words is most fruitful. By the time you are done you will understand about a thrid of the word occurrances in the New Testament. He also taught me a few things that I never new before. It was worth the investment.

My husband is using this Lecture Series to learn Greek and it is very good.
I have been listening in the background and for those who want to get a command of the English language, this Lecture Series will teach you. William Mounce's teaching method is very thorough; he explains the structure of the English and Greek languages
and it isn't dry; it's actually very interesting. You will need to have the workbook to go with the Lecture Series which is well worth the cost if you have a desire to learn Greek. Although it is called Biblical Greek it's a very good foundation for learning the language structure.
