5.0 out of 5 stars Handmade "instant" wow!
If you have never made your own cards before - this is the place to start. But most especially, if you want to hear friends go "wow" when you give them a card. Then this is the right place for you.

Paper embroidery is a very simple and easy craft to learn, but the finished effect is sensational.

With the simple instructions contained within this book, you will astound...

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing "basic" guide
The title indicates that this book is for rank beginners. As such, it is a disappointment. Although it has some good patterns to copy, the directions for use are as sketchy as are directions in Fortner's subsequent books. Although learning a new skill always entails some degree of trial-and-error, learning to embroider on paper with this book as a guide guarantees...

If you have never made your own cards before - this is the place to start. But most especially, if you want to hear friends go "wow" when you give them a card. Then this is the right place for you.

Paper embroidery is a very simple and easy craft to learn, but the finished effect is sensational.

With the simple instructions contained within this book, you will astound even yourself.

Choose a pattern. Get some metallic threads for extra sparkle.

A needle and a blank card. And in just a small amount of time, you will have made a very impressive card. All for very little time and almost no cost.

With this book containing over 150 designs, I doubt you will ever find a pattern book that is better value.

Don't wait, you know this is a great deal, so order it today.

5.0 out of 5 stars A GREAT Book for paper embroidery, February 25, 2006
This review is from: Basics of Embroidery on Paper (Paperback)
This is my VERY favorite book for paper embroidery....it will work for the beginner up to an advanced project as there are about 160 pages of projects - a pricking template and a colored picture of a finished project. The pricking template will need to be photocopied, which is okay per the author.

The hardest part is trying to decide which ones to stitch first!

If you have an interest in embroidery on paper, this book has the most beautiful patterns and a variety for all occasions and holidays. The finished embroidery designs are shown in color and the pattern instructions are easy to follow. The greeting cards you can make using these patterns will be most excellent!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun new hobby., March 22, 2007
This review is from: Basics of Embroidery on Paper (Paperback)
Paper embroidery is a new hobby for me and the patterns and ideas in the book are great! My only disappointment was that there were few "male" oriented patterns, except for the plain designs. I would have liked to have seen boats, animals, etc.

I am enjoying making my own cards using the patterns in this book. It is easy and fun. My family and friends that I send the cards to have complimented my work.

The title indicates that this book is for rank beginners. As such, it is a disappointment. Although it has some good patterns to copy, the directions for use are as sketchy as are directions in Fortner's subsequent books. Although learning a new skill always entails some degree of trial-and-error, learning to embroider on paper with this book as a guide guarantees frustration with the learning curve and easily could cut short any interest in continuing to persevere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chock full of very nice designs, October 11, 2006
173 pages of nice designs. List of materials needed to create these wonders. A list of where these items could be obtained would have been helpful, however. Two pages consist of the 'how to's'. Very easy to learn. Many books are available by this author. Many, of which will end up in my inventory, I'm sure.

This book is an excellent source for paper embroidery patterns and is great for beginners. The instructions are easy to follow and the patterns are adorable. Since beginning paper embroidery, I have used the book more than any of the others that I have purchased.
