This review is from: Sing a Song of Basie/Sing Along with Basie [ORIGINAL RECORDINGS REMASTERED] (Audio CD)
This release from the British label Jasmine is a mixed bag, consisting of two LHR 1950s releases and two live tracks from a jazz festival, twenty two tracks in all.
Tracks 1-10 are "Sing A Song Of Basie," in Mono. Mono isn't the best way to hear complex music. A lot of overdubs were applied so the vocals sound diffuse. There's too much echo, and the instruments have no kick. Tracks 11-20 are "Sing Along With Basie," in Stereo, a much better presentation. The two jazz festival tracks sound fine for the vintage. "Sing A Song Of Basie" is a historical document, but "Sing Along With Basie" is far more enjoyable. If you want only one LHR release, the 2-CD set "The Hottest New Group In Jazz" is preferable.

It's wonderful to hear them again. The quality of the recordings are very good and the selections on this disk are choice.
