Very Good Performances,

This recent CD by the Basie Band is very good. It has very good audio and was recorded live in Japan. The instrumentalists are excellent, the band sounds like the typical Basie "machine," smooth, driving, and tight. Butch Miles (drummer) is the featured performer and clearly is one of the best big band drummers. There are two vocals by a female whose style is not to my taste. However, I think a better Basie CD is "Swingshift" which is excellent and includes a very good drum piece featuring (again) Butch Miles.

This CD will blow your mind, and it is recorded LIVE! The musicians have got it down. My favorite track is titled "Corner Pocket." In other words, this CD just swings.

These two are some of the best I've heard from both Basie and Ray. They should be required listening for any jazz devotee, especially big band officiandos. Excellent work.
