5.0 out of 5 stars Good listen
If you like Carl's work and don't have time to read the books, this is a good purchase. The reader is easy on the ears.

3.0 out of 5 stars Audio CD Review
Regarding the audio presentation: Of course, this is Carl Hiaasen. So, naturally, it's funny, twisted and glorious. However, George Wilson's reading is not as passionate and his characters do not sound as robust as .... say .... Barry Bostwick's reading of Skinny Dip. 3.0 out of 5 stars Audio CD Review, October 3, 2006

George Wilson has a great, deep voice and he can enunciate the pants of most human beings, but it just doesn't really add to the story.

As for the story: It seems the pet peeve of other Hiaasen books, "Ruination of the Fla. Environment," has been replaced in Basket Case with the "Runination of Journalism" vexation. While much of this topic was an eye-opener, it got a little old over time. Also, I wondered if perhaps Jack Tagger, the 46 year old death reporter, could have picked up more age appropriate sexy editor girlfriend. Maybe this is something only women notice though.
