I ordered this book before it was published because I loved the author's earlier book, Baskets, A Book for Makers and Collectors (Hand Books Press, 1999). I was looking forward to new pictures and instructions for different baskets to weave. What I didn't realize was that this new book is basically a new edition of the earlier book, cloaked in a new cover - with wonderful pictures (only mostly the same as the first book) and instructions (the same ones as in the first book). Even the Table of Contents is essentially the same. If you don't have the earlier book, I highly recommend this one. If, however, you have the earlier one like I do, there is not much new to recommend.

I wish I had read the previous review before I ordered this book. I have a copy of "Baskets- A Book for Makers and Collectors" and the new book is simply a new edition of the first with very few changes. What a disappointment. It should have been publicized as a Second Edition. I chose to return the book.

This was nothing more than a glorified new edition of her previous book with little or nothing new and I was very disappointed. The package arrived in good shape and on time so I'm pleased in that respect.

If you don't already have the wonderful, but now out of print book, 'Baskets: A Book for Makers and Collectors' (1999), this is the 2010 reprint.
The author, Billie Ruth Sudduth, master teacher, weaver, and collector, is also a widely acclaimed basketmaker whose works are in many public and private collections. She lives in the Penland area of Mitchell County, in the North Carolina mountains.
In this book, Billie Ruth, gives thoughtful, step-by-step, basket-making instruction, and you are taught the fundamentals, and complete projects, for plaited ribbed, twined, and braided construction, twill weaving, and surface embellishment.
The 144-page book, containing around 286 full colour photographs, is made up of twelve chapters full of techniques, seven distinctive projects, and the works of over ninety-five contemporary basketmakers.
