4.0 out of 5 stars It's a slam-dunk.
Like anyone, I picked this up because of all the bands I liked on it. But the real bonus is that the bands I didn't know are just as great, or these songs anyway. One of the well known songs on here is "People Who Died", by the "Jim Carroll Band". All the songs involving him are good. The tracks from "PJ Harvey" and "The Cult" are...

2.0 out of 5 stars For the love of the movie
2 1/2

Most of the songs work well enough in the film, but half of these hum-drum rockers and some other popular material makes this soundtrack a hard sell, save a few tracks near the end which almost redeem this uninspired compilation.

Like anyone, I picked this up because of all the bands I liked on it. But the real bonus is that the bands I didn't know are just as great, or these songs anyway. One of the well known songs on here is "People Who Died", by the "Jim Carroll Band". All the songs involving him are good. The tracks from "PJ Harvey" and "The Cult" are good. Obviously "Riders On The Storm" is classic. The songs "Coming Right Along" and "Strawberry Wine" are suprisingly good as well. The only disappointments here are from "Flea" and "Soundgarden". Neither song is bad, but I expected more from them. This also has a few inserts from the book "Basketball Diaries".

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Soundtrack, January 31, 2003

This was an awesome movie and a it's a great soundtrack. The "songs" by Jim Carroll are different and if you buy this CD for any reason, it will have to be for the song "Strawberry Wine." Plain and simple, the song is amazing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly wonderful, November 20, 2001

I actually bought the thing cause at the time I liked Leonardo DiCaprio. Well, suffice to say I'm *over* that phase, but I held onto the CD. This album has a great selection of songs..."Strawberry Wine" (Massive Internal Complications) still sends a chill up my spine. "Coming Right Along" is just as great. I'm able, actually, to listen to the whole CD without skipping around. A well-deserved 5 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Strawberry Wine........, August 20, 2006
This review is from: The Basketball Diaries: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
This soundtrack to the Leo DiCaprio movie is pretty good for the most part. The standouts on this disc include "Riders on the Storm" by the Doors, "Down by the Water" by PJ Harvey and "Strawberry Wine" by Massive Internal Complications.

The real reason that I'm even writing this review is just to draw your attention to "Strawberry Wine", which is just a great song that a lot of people haven't heard of. I think the song was just a one-shot because I can't find any information on the band itself or anything else they may have done. Anyway, try to get your hands on that song, it's absolutely fantastic.

4.0 out of 5 stars As good as the movie..., June 17, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Basketball Diaries: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I thought that the music was great, there were many artists that had really made the effort and added that extra thing to the song. At first I was going to give it five stars, until I heard that nr. 14 track with Flea, who seems to have the musical talent of one of those venerable bugs. After the first five seconds my opinion of the soundtrack completely dropped below ground level, but then I reminded myself of the other songs that could almost make up for this one, and the CD got a pretty decent four after all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Music!!, September 11, 2011

I had been searching for this CD for years and found it for such a ridiculously low price on Amazon that I had no choice but to purchase it.

The music on this soundtrack is soulful, thought provoking and all around amazing. It's not often now-a-days that one comes across music that has such emotional impact and that is why I searched so long to find The Basketball Diaries Soundtrack.

If you're a fan of the film or even if you're not - I will almost guarantee that you will love this album!

I couldn't believe I hadn't heard the song "People who Died" until 2 years ago. That song is the reason I bought the CD, but other highlights on this disc for me are Down by the River, Catholic Boy & Star. The spoken word pieces were great too. My copy is damaged, so I couldn't listen to the Flea song, but based on the comments of others, that probably wasn't such a big loss.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strawberry Wine...Need I Say More!, January 12, 2010
This review is from: The Basketball Diaries: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I have searched for years for information about the band Massive Internal Complications and have come up with hardly anything. The song is simply incredible and actually fits perfectly with the scence that it is played during the movie. I assume the band broke up before they ever released an album because this is the only song I could find from them. I just hope the members of the band check out Amazon periodically to see the reviews of this soundtrack because they are the soundtrack. Very talented group with a very talented lead singer. Maybe someday they will come back, until then I'll just keep searching.
