Gets no better than this. Every year these guys put together a book detailing where every NBA team stands, how they performed the prior year and what their chances are in the upcoming season. Each team has a 3 or 4 page essay while every single PLAYER even has a short essay covering his abilities and whatever individual narrative there may be.
It's a thoroughly objective and stats-oriented approach but the numbers don't ever get in the way of the prose. It's well-written material that only references arcane stats when necessary, and usually in a fashion that makes the picture understandable.
It's incredible to me that this all written by two guys. Every single team, every single player, covered in detail. The annual bible for the intelligent NBA fan.
(And for those who are familiar with BASEBALL Prospectus, the book is in a similar format but the writing isn't nearly as snarky and satirical as the Baseball guys tend to get. They also tend to be a bit less reliant on the stats to tell the story.)
