Book Description

October 1997
Explore the latest in interlaced designs of Celtic scrollwork! These interlaced basket patterns were inspired by the author's interest in Baltimore album applique quilts. Scarlett Rose easily adapted these woven basket patterns into her style of interlaced scrollwork. All the block patterns are interchangeable with the patterns in her first book, CELTIC STYLE FLORAL APPLIQUE. You can choose to make a quilt just like the ones in this book, or you can use the patterns and techniques to come up with your own unique designs. The author not only includes ideas, but also illustrations and patterns that will encourage all who love the art of applique and quiltmaking! AUTHORBIO: Born and raised in northern California, Scarlett Rose started quilting in 1976. After joining a local quilt group in 1982 and discovering the wide variety of quilt shows and competitions, she began entering her quilts in many contests, winning numerous awards. She teaches throughout the country and has authored several books. REVIEW: The Chatanooga Times says, "Scarlett Rose presents six quilt patterns and other variations and borders in the technique emulating carvings and illuminations of the Celtic tradition. If you enjoy intricate applique work, this book may be for you."

4.0 out of 5 stars good patterns, needs to include more detailed instructions, June 28, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Baskets: Celtic Style (Paperback)
Clear diagrams of where to place the celtic designs were helpful in learning this technique. However, the author states in her "review of basics" to "refer to my first book...if you need more detailed instructions". I would suggest (if space was the issue) that in her next book she devotes fewer words in her "evolution" section and include all of the "basic and detailed instructions" in each book. The reader should not have to buy two books to get all the instructions unless one is promoted as in a "series" with the other.

4.0 out of 5 stars Celtic knot work to embellish woven basket patterns, May 4, 1998
This review is from: Baskets: Celtic Style (Paperback)
The author/quilter uses the bias strip Celtic knot work to create elegant, woven basket patterns, and to embellish around the basket and borders. Designs are given for 5 quilted wall hangings, or you can create your own.
