4.0 out of 5 stars Great music played by 2 bass wizards
This cd is very enjoyable, Victor Wooten and Steve Bailey show thier talent with original music played with leading bass and create a very original kind of music that can liked among jazz listeners. 3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Cool
I must say that Steve and Victor are the best. This CD is cool, but not one that I can listen to a lot. It has a lot of nasty playing and creative ideas and I dig it, maybe because I am a bass player. If you play bass, you would appretiate this. 3 stars is not an insult, it is a solid CD not at all bad, but not increadible.

This cd is very enjoyable, Victor Wooten and Steve Bailey show thier talent with original music played with leading bass and create a very original kind of music that can liked among jazz listeners. While Vic Wooten is probably one of the best bass players of today, mostly because of his technique, this is not a Wooten showcase of his wonderful playing abilits, in this cd Vic plays slow melodies or low grooves unlike his solo cds where his shows off his technique. This cd is very enjoyable specially for bass players or those who wants to experience bass guitar as a leading instrument in jazz fusion music.

Wooten and Bailey had recorded a wonderful cd which is a must for every bass player, they take the 4 strings and the 6 strings fretless and make unbelieveable sounds and rhythems... it has it all, funk, jazz, groove! buy it!

I own the Bass Extremes Video so, I knew these 2 could play but, I was NOT expecting the musicality of this album. My Non-Bass playing freinds enjoy the music for the songs. If you want to listen to GREAT technique, Buy both of the Bass Extremes CD's (I did) Steve and Victor compliment each other and the writing is fantastic. I rated this as low as 5 starts because there is no higher grade. Bass players,GET THIS CD!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars BASSically, it's the best, August 24, 2001

This cd is simply the best electric bass centered recording I've ever heard. It's very well recorded. The music hooks you with grooving melodies. They pay homage to a past great with playful melodic "cameos" from Jaco. The one song with lyrics is wonderfully written and well sung. Don't hesitate and buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stupendous, June 6, 1999

This is the quintessential Bass CD.Incredibly innovative.Technique out the wazoo, without getting boring. These two players along with their guest create a synthosis of varying styles that is unbelieveable. This new breed of Bassist, have brought us into the next millenium of the Bass guitar.I do feel Victor owes a nod to Michael Mannring for some of those changes. Thanks to them all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Consistently good, but timid, October 28, 1999
This review is from: Bass Extremes - Cookbook (Audio CD)
If you've never heard Victor Wooten's work, this CD is outstanding. If you've listened to Vital Tech Tones (with Scott Henderson and Steve Smith), The Flecktones Live Art or Left of Cool, or Victor's own 3 solo disks, this CD is still great, but doesn't break new ground. Maybe too much reverence for each other, and not enough getting down and dirty. Oteill Burbridge's work adds greatly. Wish he would spend more time with Victor, and put out his second solo album soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars A GREAT BASS CD !, August 26, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Bass Extremes - Cookbook (Audio CD)
Victor Wooten does it again. This CD is practically taken over by Wooten with Bailey in the shadows.Oteil Burbridge puts on a good show as Will Lee does too. It would have been better if Jaco were still alive.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Star Filled bass Album!, June 1, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Bass Extremes - Cookbook (Audio CD)
This album is an outstanding compilation of some of the greatest Bass players today! This album shows each players distinct technic that is equally shared between each player. This album is not for every one. I originally bought it because of Victor Wooten, but there is so much more to it. If ya only want vic buy Show of Hands or What did he say? But if ya only check out Vic you're only hurting yourself.

I would personally buy anything Victor Wooten put his name on. He is a great guy. This cd also has Steve Bailey doing some 6 string stylings. It is a great cd. Thank you.
