Next best thing,

After seeing Ron Carter live, I wasn't sure if a CD would do him justice... I was wrong. This album is the next best thing to a live performance. Stephen Scott on piano is inspirational. This is the perfect CD. The songs flow together yet have their own identity. This would be a great gift for someone who is just starting to listen to Jazz. Actually, it would be a great gift for the learned jazz listener, as well. Add this CD to your collection and see him live, if possible. You won't be disappointed.

After seeing Ron live in NYC, I couldn't resist buying this album. The addictive theme from "Blues for D.P." remained in my head for weeks, and the soothing tone of "Someday My Prince Will Come" continues to relax me anytime of day. Ron Carter is the greatest living bassist, and Stephen Scott's piano playing is the best I've heard since Monk. Not to mention the two percussionists, Lewis Nash and Steve Kroon, who also deliver amazing performances. To sum up... this CD is one of my top 5 favorite albums of all time, and nothing will change that..(except maybe another Ron Carter album!)

Ron Carter has supported other jazz musicians on countless albums, and it's always nice to see him lead a project. This album has plenty of great tunes with outstanding arrangements. I especially enjoy hearing Ron's take on "I Remember Clifford."

Ron Carter is a beast. Not only is he one of the greatest bass players who ever lived, but he's also almost 7 feet tall. Get this and everything he did with miles and his solo albums, great stuff.
