I'm sitting in Starbucks getting my eyes glued open after staying up all night last night digesting most of the info in your BASS LOGIC book. What a revelatory publication! If I had been able to get my hands on this kind of down to earth, functional, ultra-practical and yes, LOGICAL music instruction back in 1971, I would have been able to make giant strides toward my then goal of being able to play one day like James Jamerson - Motown bassist - and other Bass Heroes such as Jack Cassidy, John Paul Jones, and maybe even Charles Mingus. As it turned out, I was turned off by snobbish, fuddy-duddy instructors who turned their noses up at my musical tastes and interests while making me play "Three Blind Mice" in a myriad of boring ways. I gave up after having given thousands of hard earned dollars to those shysters... finally, your BASS LOGIC has given me a lighted path to at least basic bass proficiency provided I put in the blood, sweat, and fretwork - I WILL! 40 albums, some movie soundtracks and 5 world tours later I've finally found a music instruction book for bass thats easy to follow and very comprehensive. I've always managed to get by on ear and gut instincts. while performing in London I was given this book to read and found it to be easy and very comprehensive overall. I've checked out some bass instruction books along the way, but they all seemed bland and too technical to hold my attention. Now I have a clearer picture of whats going on in the material i'm playing from a theory standpoint and this has opened up some great options for me. now that I'm producing as well as playing the bass, I can communicate easier with guitarists, keyboard players and singers. This is simply the best bass method available. It is also one of the most comprehensive. Bass Logic covers everything from theory and technique to practical applications in different styles. Most players use their fingers for right hand techniques, but I liked the fact that it also showed picking techniques as well. (Actually, the thumping and popping was the most fun part for me.) Arpeggios, scales, intervals and even chords and progressions are discussed at length. I finally learned the neck. After reading the book I got the video which helped a lot because I like to see things demonstrated. Watching the ideas in the book put in action was the best educational experience I've had, and I've got a lot of bass methods. I've been working in the book and video for a few months now, and I haven't found anything that wasn't useful on some level. I'm starting to make that leap from "theory to practice" and it is making a HUGE difference in my playing. I wish I could give it more stars. I also wish I'd gotten it sooner.

This book is great, because it explains the mechanics of what is being taught. For anyone starting out like myself, this book is a great compliment to "Bass for dummies." When I say mechanics, it goes beyond simply making you push the "I believe" button of learning, it provides explanations.

I found the left and right hand drills in this book to be extremely helpful. Had a little trouble fully grasping some of their explanations (Circle of Fifths), but then I thinks that's to be expected considering the topic. I only wish they would Add a DVD to further solidify what's being taught in the book.

All in all, it's a good book that's putting me well on my way to becoming a good bass player!
