4.0 out of 5 stars Really fun and surprisingly realistic for a Wii game
The game does require a bit of time to set up the rod and get familiar with the controls. I like that the game requires a learning curve because I like a game that makes you think and then earn your points or rewards. For those that could not cast or drive the boat with the rod assembled, I made the same mistake... be sure to select the "B" controller" option and you are...

3.0 out of 5 stars Just okay
As wii games go, this one is pretty lame. Once you figure out how to cast - no easy task - the game gets a little more interesting. FYI...you can't cast like you would with a real fishing pole. Unless you win tournaments, you end fishing the same lake, which gets old. The "instructions" for this game really don't explain anything. I found driving the boat was the most...

4.0 out of 5 stars Really fun and surprisingly realistic for a Wii game, December 12, 2010

The game does require a bit of time to set up the rod and get familiar with the controls. I like that the game requires a learning curve because I like a game that makes you think and then earn your points or rewards. For those that could not cast or drive the boat with the rod assembled, I made the same mistake... be sure to select the "B" controller" option and you are on your way! Setting up the rod with the Wii controllers is a bit annoying but once set up it works pretty good.

I am the fisherman in the house but once my wife got a hold of this that was all she wrote... She beats me every time and we are still playing a year later. You will need to sit down and play for at least an hour at a time though to really enjoy, I guess that is the biggest challenge, finding time to play.

If they make improvements to this game and create a more intuitive fishing rod set-up then I will likely upgrade.

I give the game a 5 for fun and a 4 for overall because I think the rod setup could be improved on.

4.0 out of 5 stars Master the cast, and it is pretty fun, December 29, 2009

This review is from: Bass Pro Shops: The Strike (Video Game)
The trick to enjoying this game is mastering the cast. It is not intuitive, and feels awkward at first. The instructions are not much help either. I would also recommend changing the controller configuration to "configuration b" in the options screen of the main menu. We had the same frustrations as the other reviewers, but we managed to figure out the cast in the end.

To begin your cast you pull B (and hold it), and "POP" the rod up. When the white bar reaches the end of the arc, you "POP" the rod forward. When the white bar returns to the beginning of the arc, you release the B button.

Like I said, once you get the hang of the cast, it is a pretty fun game. I really enjoyed reeling in a 39lb striped bass. My brother bought this game for my dad, and now he won't have to wait until spring to have a little fishing fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Husband loves this game, January 13, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Bass Pro Shops: The Strike (Video Game)
As some other reviewers have posted, there is a learning curve to this game. My husband has had big fun trying to master the nuances of the game and how to land 40 lb plus stripers. He bought the package with the rod and reel but now he just uses the wii controller with the nunchuk. Having finally conquered the tournaments he is now on the hunt for the legendary fish in each lake. The boat races are fun also.

5.0 out of 5 stars learn how to fish, March 10, 2010

Here are some tips, make maps of the lakes & way points, at the way points wright down what you caught. So when you go to a tournament you know where to fish for what your fishing for. There are ways to make money, with that $$ go & buy a top rod & reel, your casting problems will be gone. Just cause you bought the right rod & reel doesn't mean your using them, when you get out there on the lake click on gear pull up the rod click on it then do the same the reel & line now your fishing with them. 90% of the time I use plastic unless the cat fish won't let me then I go to swim baits. Fish career if you want to fill up your trophy room. Don't forget your drag you'll need to work it to get legendary fish. last tip I use controller & numchuck only GO HAVE FUN !!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great game ... once you learn how to play it, July 21, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Bass Pro Shops: The Strike (Video Game)
Imagine the fun of driving your own Bass Boat and the exitement of catching a variety of fish from several different lakes, all from the comfort of your own home while sitting on your favorite easy chair. Thats what The Strike is all about. The graphics are great and supply a great deal of realistic thrills. The tournaments and boat races certainly are fun and challenging. There is however a need to learn how to play the game. The instruction booklet leaves alot to be desired. But if you take the time to figure it out, and practice casting, you too will get as much enjoyment and satisfaction as I am getting. I'm 74 years old and would recommend it for children of all ages.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fishing!, May 15, 2010

This is a great fishing game, realistic and exciting fish behavior when hooked- the bass are great fighters. It takes awhile to master the cast, but if it was too easy it wouldn't be fun. The whiners writing the negative reviews should not buy games requiring skill and patience. Several lakes, great scenery, boat races, casting contests, lots of fun. If you need help in casting, go to [...] for the instructional video.

3.0 out of 5 stars First Thoughts, January 6, 2010

I just got this game and after reading through the manual (always RTFM) and getting familiar with the basics...I jumped into it...a couple of hours later, frustration.

The graphics reminds me of the Grand Theft Auto games, like a cross between toon and sim. The underwater graphics are hard on the eyes...lots of stuff but again, almost cartoon like...and way too much stuff...you can't tell if your looking at a distant weed, algae, minnows or dirt on your eyeballs.

The casting gauge is similar to the swing gauge used in Golden Tee 98 for PC, nearly impossible to get right. The sensitivity is nil (and I have my controllers setup for maximum control).

The GPS is almost useless...a map would have been better...and that fish finder is worse. I've been out fishing with fish finders and the one in the game reminds me of one I used back in the 90s...it made a nice boat anchor.

I've seen better fishing simulation in another game but this one has a lot of plus points with the sheer amount of details. Once you master the casting, learned what all the baits do and how to use them, figured out how to find fish in the huge lakes, it's almost (not as good as another game) like going out and fishing for real.

I really like fishing sims...as do several members of my "family"...we were hoping this game would fit the bill for fishing simulation but...the shortcomings in playability and controls aren't quite what we had hoped for. It's more fun to get up at 3 a.m. and drive for 2 hours then waste an entire day on a dead lake.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not For the Very Young, January 10, 2010

I bought this game for Christmas for my 4 year old great grandson because his father (my adult grandson) told me that my great grandson loved to fish. He said if I bought this game for his son, then they could play it together. After Christmas was over I asked my grandson how his son liked playing the game. He said that he himself really enjoyed the game but that it was too hard for my 4 year old great grandson. I don't know if my great grandson can't play the game because it is too hard for his age, or if he just has not played the game enough to learn how to play it so I am giving it a good rating because my grandson said that it was a lot of fun to play. I would recommend this game for older children and for adults, but I don't know if I would recommend this game for very young children because of what my adult grandson said about his 4 year old son not being able to play it.
