Great Fun,
By Ginnikinni "church organist" (Northern Virginia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Bass Wore Scales (Paperback)
My son gave me a copy of "The Alto Wore Tweed" for beach reading. Now that I am home and miles from any beach, I am still laughing as I read Mark Schweizer's other Liturgical Mysteries. The "hero" of Mr. Schwrizer's series is a detective, a musician and a "would be" author who slips his latest writings into the choir folders for Sunday sermon reading. I have introduced "The Alto Wore Tweed" to all ages and find that they join me in the laughter. One friend who is recovering from surgery told me he is used to skimming as he reads, but he found that he can't skim TAWT for fear of missing another Schweizer gem. A "G" rating for an A+ read. Although this review is for the Alto, all of this series is Great Fun.

This is one of the best series of humorous mysteries ever. You get two stories in one, both laugh-out-loud funny. Bonuses are the North Carolina mountain setting and the Episcopal Church choir motif (but you don't have to be Episcopal, churchy, or even musical to chuckle your way through). I have all these books on my iPhone's Kindle app and love to read and reread them in airports and on planes -- where people probably look at me funny as I giggle about "saving" Kokomo the ape, a 6-foot stuffed buffalo Christmas present, and other sublime foolishness.

The Bass Wore Scales is just one of a series of books by Mark Schweitzer that can make your sides hurt from laughing. I am an Episcopalian from a small town and these books and their characters really hit home. I would highly recommend these books if you are looking for a laugh and a little mystery (someone is always dying in the church).

This is another addition to the liturgical mysteries. Like the others, this story is well-written and entertaining. I enjoyed reading it, and look forward to reading more of the series.

This is the 5th book in the author's Liturgical Mysteries series. All will elict at least a few snickers, and most have their laugh-out-loud-and-never-mind-who's-listening moments. This iteration did not disappoint. In fact, I believe that as the series matures, the author's skill increases. I've found that I prefer the later books in the series to the earlier ones.I was somewhat hesitant to purchase this book due to the lack of meaningful reviews at the time I was considering it, even though I had bought and enjoyed the previous 4 books. Something about a gorilla that uses sign language just didn't do it for me. But, I'm very glad I did... this bumped out #4 as my new favorite in the series, and about 3/4 through, I hit the 'who cares if people look at me funny' mentality and was laughing my head off. No spoilers, but don't you believe for one moment that Moosey has ADD when he asks strange and unrelated questions! I've definitely got my eye on the remaining books in the series! Note on Kindle formatting: Very good. Only minor issues here & there, and nothing that impacts the reading experience.

This book is just as hilarious as all the others in the series. A good read for escaping into mystery/fiction!
