Greatest Hard Rock Album Ever,
By
This review is from: Bastards (Audio CD)
This album is unbelievablely good, and if you live outside of Germany, Amazon is the only way you're going to get it.The best Motorhead album, and probably the best hard rock album I've ever heard. I've had it for a year and I still listen to it all the time. If you've been to the shows (or have the live album), you've heard some killer songs (On Your Feet or On Your Knees, Burner, Born to Raise Hell, Lost in the Ozone) that you didn't know before. This is where they're hiding, and they're surrounded by some of the best Motorhead songs. On Your Feet... - uptempo and killer. Burner - 2:30 of double kick drums and super fast guitar work. Pure energy. Death or Glory - Just an awesome song. Lyrics are genius, running down major conflicts during all human history. I am the Sword - Very cool. Makes you want to bust heads. Born to Raise Hell - THE party anthem. Makes you want to move. Don't Let Daddy Kiss Me - A little disturbing, but a very good semi-acoustic song. Bad Woman - Metal-blues at its finest. If there's a Motorhead song to dance to, this is it. Awesome swing feel to it. Liar - Crushing. Anger given form. Lost in the Ozone - Another semi-acoustic ballad. 2 in one album! It's powerful. Lemmy may not be the greatest singer, but he shines on this song. I'm the Man - Very odd song. The lyrics make no sense, but the music is great. We Bring the Shake - Slightly low key, great for groovin' background music (if you can imagine). Devils - Can't really describe this song. But it's great rock n' roll and a long, multi-layered, fade out of the chorus at the end is the perfect finisher to the album. Jumpin' Jack Flash [Bonus] - The classic redone. I would've liked to see more changes to the original [make it faster, heavier], but it's good a good song redone with straight distortion. Overall, this album rocks my world. A testament to Motorhead's greatness, and also to how underappreciated they are.

It's Motorhead, fools!,
By Synjyn Ryner (Pocatello, Idaho United States) - See all my reviews

This is the best Motorhead album ever, and that's saying something, because Motorhead has released a lot of great albums. My favorite songs are "Liar," "Devils," and "I am the Sword." The only thing that could have made this album any better is if Bastards contained the version of "Born to Raise Hell" from the Airheads soundtrack (f/ Ice-T & Whitfield Crane of Ugly Kid Joe). This is also my personal favorite Motorhead album cover, even though it is plain old black & white, and kind of dark. You just know when you see the cover art that this album is going to kick your ass. So if you don't have it, and you are any sort of metal fan at all, do yourself a favor and pick it up.

One of the greatest Mötorhead Albums,
By
This review is from: Bastards (Audio CD)
After Phil and Eddie left the band I wasn't interested of Mötorhead releases, maybe only Orgasmatron is one of their best efforts with different band members, but lately I bought their newest album INFERNO and the sound in the CD is great, so the interest in Mötorhead raise again and I bought BASTARDS and it was a great surprise.
The complete album is a classic, with heavy riffs, great drums and obviously the grrr Lemmy's voice and bass riffs. This CD is a Mötorhead classic, you can hear it again and again and again, and it is fantastic. If you are looking for a great heavy metal album (like seasons in the abyss, master of puppets, etc) buy this one and INFERNO too, you won't regret.

Motorhead - 'Bastards' (Steamhammer),

Superb 1993 Motorhead release.I must've missed this one, because I recognised so few of these tunes. One P-O-W-E-R-H-O-U-S-E of of an album.A lesser known British metal classic.Tracks that MORE than make this CD a true keeper are "On Your Feet Or On Your Knees","Death&Glory",their possibly anthem(?)"Born To Raise Hell",the semi-acoustic tear jerker "Don't Let Daddy Kiss Me","We Bring The Shake" and their decent cover of the Stone's "Jumpin' Jack Flash".Long live Lemmy and his metal henchmen!

One of Motorhead's absolute best.,
By
This review is from: Bastards (Audio CD)
I'd call this one of the top 5 best Motorhead albums ever. Most songs are fast and hard (Death or Glory, Burner, Liar) or super-catchy (Born to Raise Hell, On Your Feet Or On Your Knees) or even somewhat melodic, such as Devils. A must-have for any motorhead / metal fan.

Enter Motorhead,
This review is from: Bastards (Audio CD)
Enter Motorhead, 1993. When 1992's MARCH OR DIE album didn't hit it off as well as the band hoped it would, Lemmy and the gang went back to doing what they did and still do best: churning out scorching riffs at breakneck speeds.
BASTARDS is arguably Motorhead's best album, bar none, which is saying something, considering that Motorhead's discography puts bands' like Slayer and Maiden to shame. The drumming's top-notch (check out Burner, and then piece your eardrums back together), the lyrics are catchy, thoughtful, and honest, and the guitar work on BASTARDS is downright awesome. Check it: On Your Feet Or On Your Knees: Starts out with a killer riff and doesn't let up. Catchy as hell. Burner: Damn. Red Bull in song form; energy. Death or Glory: A good song with a better chorus. I Am The Sword: Love it. One of my favorites. Born to Raise Hell: In spite of its popularity, this is one of my least favorite songs on the album. It's still very good, however. Don't Let Daddy Kiss Me: This song is a bit of a deviation from the traditional Motorhead formula. It's acoustic, and the lyrics are haunting, to say the least. Bad Woman: Groove to it, baby. Liar: An adrenaline-rush of anger. Another one of the album's best. Lost in the Ozone: A nice song for when you're just relaxing. Some parts are acoustic and some are electric, which Lemmy and Co. mix very nicely. I'm the Man: Possibly my favorite song on the album. Man, I love these riffs. This song gave me goosebumps the first time I heard it, which is definitely a good thing. We Bring the Shake: Less intense that most Motorhead material, but there's nothing wrong with that. Devils: The opening riff of this song is great. It's creepy, it's groovy. A great closer. Jumpin' Jack Flash: This song's only available on the remastered version of the album, so I don't have it. I imagine it's good too, though. :) BASTARDS is a damn good album, and very under-rated. It's a shame that this album is lost in Motorhead's vast discography.

I'm not worthy!,
By A. Stutheit "Teyad" (Denver, CO USA) - See all my reviews

Motorhead helped create speed metal, so of course all metalheads (like me) bow down to Lemmy and The Gang. But this is also one of the few bands whom punks can appreciate and jam to, as well. And, influentialness aside, Motorhead are a notch above the rest. Most punk bands eat Motorhead's dust, and Motorhead are also a lot less one-dimensional and more hook-oriented than most speed/thrash metal bands. "Bastards," Motorhead's umpteenth album, which was released in 1993, continues carrying on the band's iconic legacy. "On Your Feet Or On Your Knees," a very exciting (albeit short) song, starts the album off on the right foot, and the remainder of the songs don't disappoint. Like the rest of the great albums in this band's discography, some of the stuff on this disc (like the very catchy and famous fifth track, "Born to Raise Hell") will stick in your head for days. Tracks two and three, "Burner" and "Death or Glory," probably best illustrate "Bastard's'" great speed-punk beats, with super fast, buzzing guitars and thumping drums. And, just when the listener starts to marvel at the album's uncompromising speed and force, Lemmy breaks out the acoustic guitars for a strummed, melancholy ballad ("Don't Let Daddy Kiss Me"), with heart-wrenching lyrics about "the worst crime in the world" (incest). Other standouts are the groovey, lurching riffs on "Liar," "We Bring The Shake," which you can almost tap your toe to, and the bonus track (which is only available on the remastered edition), a catchy cover of "Jumpin' Jack Flash." Like most Motorhead albums, "Bastards" is a classic. Not only is it a very enjoyable listen, but it showcases the band doing what they do best: cranking out tunes that are mighty loud, fast, and catchy. And nobody does this type of music better than Motorhead. Period.

THE BEST ALBUM !!!,

Okay, maybe not THE best, but certainly one of the top 10 HEavy Metal albums of all time. The songs are fast crushing and loaded with great melodies. My faves are On Your Feet..., Burner, Death oR Glory, I am the Sword, Lost in the Ozone, We Bring the Shake and Devils. the only song I really don't like is Don't Let Daddy Kiss Me, a bizarre subjest for Motorhead indeed. Though it seems out of place on this album, it does it no real harm. I've not heard the bonus track as my copy didn't have it. The original is rare... and was once valued [highly] ... It is Motorhead's BEST!!

A Killer Album,

This is not only one of my favorite Motorhead albums but also one of my favorite metal albums of all time. In my opinion, this album is Motorhead's third best behind Ace of Spades and Overkill. It's fast, raw, angry, and loud; just the way any Motorhead album should be. If you don't own it and your a Motorhead fan or a heavy metal fan in general than you are truely missing out.
