5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, funny stuff
Before the Onion, before the SNL news, there was the Weekly World News, which has always had the balls to print the news the so-called establishment won't touch. Alas, the courage and journalistic integrity of the WWN reporters has been criminally underappreciated--until now. BAT BOY LIVES! is a hilarious colllection of the best of more than two decades of WWN articles...

3.0 out of 5 stars I like "Rabid Nun Infects Entire Convent" better.
It's by a guy who wrote stories from an even more over-the-top tabloid, the Sun. It just came out a few days ago.

BAT BOY LIVES! is a hilarious colllection of the best of more than two decades of WWN articles. Do yourself a huge favor and install one of these books on your coffeetable or in your bathroom immediately--heck, they're cheap, so get two and give the other one to your uncle Milt, who's always seemed a little...not of this world.

5.0 out of 5 stars I didn't know there were so many things I didn't know!, October 27, 2005
This review is from: Bat Boy Lives!: The WEEKLY WORLD NEWS Guide to Politics, Culture, Celebrities, Alien Abductions, and the Mutant Freaks that Shape Our World (Paperback)
It's not just for aliens anymore! What used to be the curriculum of supermarket tabloid shoppers has been transformed into an eye-candied expose of yesterday, today and tomorrow's feature stories. Complete with charts and graphs Tufte would be proud of--and even a sexy fold-out centerfold, Bat Boy Lives! would make anyone's WC *the* place to be for news and views.

5.0 out of 5 stars Guilty, guilty pleasure!, November 7, 2005

The Weekly World News tabloid has long been the standard to which "yellow journalism" should aspire! No glossy color pages, no boring celebrity gossip, just the news of the weird, wacky and wonderful! Alien faces on Mars, the pin-up bimbo of the week on page 3, and the odd ball news report that you just happen to KNOW is true! Not to mention some of the oddest oddball "advice" columnists and psychics........
The Weekly World News is published someplace (not here, Britain?) and the news stories rarely carry a location or a date. BUT you should never let small details like that stand in the way of good solid sensationalistic reporting!
The Weekly World News has been a guilty pleasure of mine for a long time.....now those who are too embarrassed to buy it at the supermarket checkout stand can order a copy of this "BEST OF" book in a plain brown wrapper to be delivered to the privacy of your very own home!
ENJOY!

5.0 out of 5 stars Weekly Word News Lives on in this WONDERFUL book., July 30, 2007

This review is from: Bat Boy Lives!: The WEEKLY WORLD NEWS Guide to Politics, Culture, Celebrities, Alien Abductions, and the Mutant Freaks that Shape Our World (Paperback)
Heard the Weekly World News isn't going to be publishing it's funny newspaper anymore. Was so sorry to hear this. Always loved reading the headlines as I waited in the grocery store line. Maybe should have purchased the paper every time I laughed at a headline and they'd still be in business. This book brings all the top of the tops in Weekly World News back. VERY well produced and all the articles will make you laugh out loud.

From President Clinton's 3 breasted intern to blobs from space eating farmer's trucks it's all here.

HIGHLY recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for alienkind., October 27, 2005

After discovering New York-brewed Schaefer beer cans left on the moon, I and other space experts have come to believe that aliens are truly among us. They have invaded our lives in ways we could have only previously imagined--with the help of L. Ron Hubbard, Isaac Asimov and Carl Sagan, of course. WWN's Guide to Politics, Culture, Celebrities, Alien Abductions, and the Mutant Freaks that Shape Our World is the definitive source of "need-to-know" facts to share with friends at the bar or as a guest at a formal dinner party. Each thoroughly-researched article will give you pause to enter that 4th dimension we often find elusive in today's fast-paced techno-weeny environment.

5.0 out of 5 stars set your faces to stun, August 8, 2007
This review is from: Bat Boy Lives!: The WEEKLY WORLD NEWS Guide to Politics, Culture, Celebrities, Alien Abductions, and the Mutant Freaks that Shape Our World (Paperback)
This and the Holy Bible are the only two books you need.

I continue to be baffled why folks believe The New York Times but not the Weekly World News. The WWN has *never* had to print a retraction or correction. It is the journalistic standard to which the Columbia Review of Journalism should benchmark.

Modern documentation off what Old Scratch is up to.

You may want to get a copy of "Let's Pave the Stupid Rainforest and Give Teachers Stun Guns."

5.0 out of 5 stars WARNING: Just like a comedy album, this book will get old!, June 29, 2008

This review is from: Bat Boy Lives!: The WEEKLY WORLD NEWS Guide to Politics, Culture, Celebrities, Alien Abductions, and the Mutant Freaks that Shape Our World (Paperback)
But I still give it five stars. I do so because I'm so happy that the creators of the Weekly World News put this book out, otherwise, I'd feel like a loser trying to colelct as many old issues as I could.

Will there ever be another periodical as great or informative as the WWN? I don't see any coming on the horizon. Even the WWN's website is down!

It all makes me depressed. But I can cheer up with one fact, that even though the Weekly World News is dead, Bat Boy still lives!

. . . then you understand why this coffee-table size book is a must have for your reference library, especially since the Weekly World News recently quit publishing. This thing would be hilarious, if it weren't so true. My only disappointment was that, while the book includes the excellent article explaining that Abe Lincoln was female (yes folks, "Babe" Lincoln), the editors neglected to include a related and one of my all time favorite WWN articles: "Woman Gives Birth to Abe Lincoln" (that is WITH beard). You'll enjoy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars A zany presentation, January 6, 2007
This review is from: Bat Boy Lives!: The WEEKLY WORLD NEWS Guide to Politics, Culture, Celebrities, Alien Abductions, and the Mutant Freaks that Shape Our World (Paperback)
It's hard to easily categorize BAT BOY LIVES!: it's a humor title which also is based on the Weekly World News gossip publication's impossible, sensationalist headlines - and it provides tongue-in-cheek commentary on celebrities, culture, politics, alien abductions and more within its pages of 'impossible events'. Black and white photos blend with 'truths' to make for a zany presentation indeed.

This tabletop book is 6 chapter of "Best of" the WWN. While some of my all time favorates are there, some importiant "News" articles are missing.

For those with a weird sense of humor and that have not heard of the WWN this book provides an ideal introduction to the unique features WWN. Those that are long term followers, this book will bring back memories of some of WWN shining moments.
