Completely shocked at what a great song this is. Haven't heard any Ashlee Simpson for years, I didn't even know it was her when I listened to it. It's super catchy. If this is any indication of what to expect in an upcoming album, I'll be first in line!

Ashlee Simpson returns to music with a new single after a 5 year break since her last studio album, Bittersweet World. She is no longer signed to a record label and is releasing this new music on her own. This means she has more control over the sound and direction of her music, but she also has less money to fund and back her. Her sound is a little more edgy and the songs production sounds cheap like it's a demo more than a final version, but it grows on you and I like it more with each listen. Buy it to support a great artist and so Ashlee can release a full length album!

Ashlee really delivers with this single. Remember the sweet Emo/pop girl who was navigating the spotlight with her heart on her sleeve just a few years ago? She's gone. Now with Ashlee's record company no longer pulling the strings, she is able to be the bold edgy grown woman she has blossomed into. I've played this track for a few friends, all of them liked it and none of them believed who was singing it.
I'm looking forward to more.

Ashlee Simpson was a huge part of mine and my daughters life in 2004-2005. She had back to back number 1 albums and two sold out tours back then. Of course Ashlee's life and our lives moved on and Ashlee slipped off the radar even after she released her 3rd studio album Bittersweet World in 2008. Ashlee became pregnant and had to cancel that tour. Fast forward to 2013 and Ashlee is finally ready to make music again after taking time away to raise her son Bronx and pursue acting. When I first heard the new single Bat for a Heart, I was a bit taken back. I was shocked to hear Ashlee's voice again! Then I thought dropping the f bomb wouldn't get her on the radio. That was until I found that there is a clean version that replaces the f bomb with "mess". After several plays, I like the song and it really gets stuck in your head. My only complain is that it repeats the chorus a bit too much and it is a bit sad. My interpretation is that Ashlee is trying to forget her failed relationships. Other than that, a great effort after so much time away from recording. I wish Ashlee all the luck in getting back on the charts. Hopefully her 4th album will contain a bunch of catchy hits. I know none of us can bring back 2004-2005, but it will sure be nice to hear Ashlee on some new music.
